Entry Number Ten: Is it when the snow falls?

Oct 07, 2006 18:19

October is in. It's silver, in the air-- REALLY. Time for swirling around, but too many blood cells forgotten in the meantime. And the colours warming me up.

Can't believe I lost September

I was wondering the other day - do demons exist?

I think demons exist. Although I have no real proof.

P. Patil? As in Padma? But you used to sign off differently? Or--

Allright, I think I ought to tell you the horrible truth. Daemons actually do exist. I was just told so by a very trustworthy person. He's actually a daemon himself. How's that?

No, P. Patil as in Parvati. Her twin. I should have introducced myself as we've never met.

Well, then I suppose I should believe you, shouldn't I. If you've been told by a trustworthy source and all.

Parvati Patil, the Gryffindor, if I am not mistaken? Why yes, of course, no one could forget the indelible twins of the Hogwarts castle.

That said, how very typical that you would believe some mythical trustworthiness of an unascertained source.

Yes, who could forget the prettiest girls in their year? Nothing wrong with Gryffindor, either.

And do allow me to converse with someone without judging my intelligence, would you?

Oh I'd argue that, my darling.

But do forgive me, Patil the Pretty, if my words came across as an assault against your undoubtedly bright intelligence. Believe me, this was not my intention.

Oh, don't fancy us pretty then? That's a shame.

I'm afraid I just don't have a flair for the Oriental - far too colourful for my tastes.

And you argue that I am missing out on something? Oh do tell.

I normally refrain from this sort of admonishment in these devices, Morsus, but I must speak out, here. Your selectivity is leading you to be inaccurate.

The Patil Twins are not 'Oriental' but Indian, which is more classified as 'Mideastern', I believe, where as Oriental implies far-East.

If you must display your opinions, you might at least endeavour to be more precise.

Very well noted, Professor Snape, but I doubt the Patil at hand would know the difference. Especially, considering that it is only the modern use of the term that distinguishes between Middle East and Far East.

I do remember (unless, of course, my memory has already started failing) that Middle East was exactly considered the Orient by European scholars starting with Roman Empire and until the Middle Ages.

On that note - how are you, Professor? Any ideas as to the culprit of the mark-play?

Respectfully,

Correct, though as we live in modern times, for clarity of communication, most people attempt to speak to their audience to some extent. An insult is not nearly so entertaining if the target of it is incapable of ascertaining what was said.

A man of my intelligence has many 'ideas', Mr Morsus, though none which I am inclined to share with anyone. The Ministry idiots are far too excited by the idea that I, myself, might have had a hand in it. Giving out answers too quickly, to people who have not even sought the solution on their own, has never been my M.O.
