Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone Chapter 1
The first chapter and so is mainly an introduction to characters, and sets the scene.

Sirius Black
This chapter mainly introduces the Dursleys who are very closed minded people, who are bad parents though they believe that they are brilliant.
The chapter also introduces magic in the second part of it. As well as chracters who aren't quite human.
I did just notice that Dumbledore asks Hagrid if there was any problem with picking up Harry after he heard that he had borrowed Sirius' motocycle.
We are introduced to Dumbledore's wacky sence of humour for the first time as well.
We also see the lengths that people will go to to explain away magic, as shown by Mr Dursley. Even when he knows that magic exists. Mr Dursley knew that the cat was reading a map and then a road sign but still chose to ignore it or explain it away.
