A Very Canadian DITL 7/7/2016

Jul 11, 2016 21:44

Hello all! I'm a native Houstonian, but this is my last full day of a seven day cruise. It finds us deep in the heart (on the coast) of Canada. Victoria to be precise. And it is freezing. We've already been to Alaska and eaten it. Our mission today - locate and devour poutine.
Warnings for a horse drawn carraige. You know, if you don't like that kind of thing. 60 photos under the cut!

Morning? My watch says 12-something at this point. None of the electronics have been straight in a number of days.

Huuurk I'm not ready for this...

Oooh, it's stuff! Our Cruise Compass for the day.

Nobody home...

Even the indoor mall is deserted.

And this happy time check would probably be why. These things are awesome. You can swipe around to find what you need or see times and events around the ship.

Inside the elevators. These are actually kind of wonderful.

I like to sit on that massive purple thing. It's super soft. Nobody at the bar~

This is the emptiest I've ever seen it. This level has the 24 hour cafe...

The only place to get coffee at this hour.

Cold...

Good morning, boat! And people who are hiding. I questioned why they were doing this. Then it started pouring on me. Boo!

Run around for a ship tour to pass the time.

Opulence... but still freezing.

More wandering, then back to the room for some Good Time Girls and a look at the schedule for the day. Hubs is still asleep, breakfast is still closed. I'll fix that first problem as soon as the buffet opens.

He is evicted to the showers! Messy room is less messy. We've been packing.

Transfer photos to the laptop and take a look at my kitten, who I dearly missed. Along with the rest of the crew.

Windjammer! Hubs is grabbing grub, I am holding a window seat.

Mmm, breakfasts.

Back to the room to add to my cup tower! The drink packages are expensive. After the first day, every time our room clerk saw us, he asked me if I needed water.

Thar 'tis!

In all of its cold, rainy glory D: Not depicted: found a poncho. It will be necessary the rest of the day.

Our chariot :D

Did a mention it was cold? Why yes, those are complimentary blankets. And the edge of my poncho.

I was really surprised by all the trees.

Coffehouses. Coffeehouses, everywhere. No sign of poutine yet.

This was an old firehouse. I love the windows on the side, but I don't know if you can see them well.

Seriously. Trees! This makes me stupidly happy.

Capital building. The statue on top has two left feet. The right was lost when they tried to take him down and there was an accident.

This was an absolutely awesome section of their park. A petting zoo is at one side. This is flanked by...

A peacock.

No, but really, right beside the petting zoo is...

An awesome bird sanctuary. You can see a white plaque toward the left that tells you the species of birds in the brush.

Hi boat in the distance!

Hi pony! And thumb! I believe her name was Dolly. Sam was her partner.

The urge to return to the boat is strong, but we hop on a bus and continue on. I must have poutine. Yay, we're tourists!

omg where are we?

Oh look, that matters much less now. Hello, Gorgeouses...

We found Beaver Tails (which I wanted but had already found oreo covered cheesecake) with Poutine, but we wanted the real stuff, and a warm place to sit. We stop in here. They give us a few places to check, so we set out.

Nope...

Nada....

Wait a minute...

Yay :D It was delicious. Fatburger. I got the one with pulled pork. Hubs got traditional. They were both delicious.

We're quickly wearing out, so we go back to find the Rocky Mountain Candy Company. We need some apples like these in our local ones D:

Couldn't finish! Hnnnng!

Found a moose and grabbed the last souvenirs (maple syrup candy, moose and beaver balls, possibly best not to ask). We're both tired at this point, so we wander back to the bus stop.

But this? It's to pedestrian. Are those stairs?

And, weeeeee!

Hi boat! (Explorer of the Seas)

An enemy ship has appeared off port, Captain!

I loved our balcony...

Time check! We'll go and see him later.

We head down really fast to hit a water station on Deck 5. Yes, this part really sucks, especially when you're thirsty.. But you have to come down to Deck 5 anyway if you have a drink package, and it's not $60 a head. And you get to freak out your cabin minder. Win-win all around. I notice around this point that the lights on this deck change color. It was blue before bed. I never figured out what that signified.

After the show, much of the crew came to say goodbye. There was a neat video screen with a montage of all the rest who couldn't come. It was really an awesome touch.

Dinner. I'm really fading. Cheese and broccoli, Texas Toast and some manner of meat loaf that was amazing.

I somehow manage to stay awake. Kind of. I needed to get our photos (we were trying to leave before 7AM). One last walk down the outside deck, but only because at that point the other elevators were completely slammed. As soon as I got our photos, I rolled into bed. Night DITL and thanks for coming along! :D
