1. Kinky Friedman for Governor
Kinky is a musician and writer, and is running an independent campaign to be elected as Texas Governor. His slogans include "How Hard Could It Be?" and "Why the Hell Not?"
He's getting a lot of support for a grassroots candidate. I hope he wins.
From Wikipedia:
On the death penalty, [Kinky] previously summed up his position, "I am not anti-death penalty, but I'm damn sure anti-the-wrong-guy-getting-executed". However, more recently he has said that he has changed his position, "The system is not perfect. Until it's perfect, let's do away with the death penalty".
He has also remarked: "I support gay marriage. I believe they have a right to be as miserable as the rest of us".

2. Keep Austin Weird
This is a campaign in Austin to keep giant chain stores from wrecking small businesses. I've never been to Austin, but it all seems pretty wacko to me. They have a
Museum of Natural and Artificial Ephemerata. Eric Tate, I envy thee.
