obstacles

A couple of months ago, our protégé asked if one of us would be available to teach today. At the time, it appeared there might be A Something which might prevent Himself from accepting this particular date, but it was not A Something which would require my presence. So, I committed for the date.

Fast forward a month or more, and an email arrives, inviting me/us to A Something Else -- and it is A Something Else which I would have attended. For years now, we have attended the receptions and ceremonies for this group, in all its evolutionary permutations, carefully sidestepping any piles of political crap which might have been chucked about during its various transitions. But I am committed, so I send my regrets, trying not to allow their tendrils to wrap themselves around my thoughts, and taint my expectations for the day.

Thursday evening, at a meeting with a circle of leaders, I hear a reminder for those invited, and discover a slender ribbon of regret has remained, curling around my thoughts. Shaking my head, I pull it away, reminding myself of my commitment.

Last night, frustrated sounds coming from the corner of the room, where I know He is working to augment the reminders of today's presentation for any who might attend. Glitches in websites, difficulties in accessing email, all making the communication process more difficult than it should be. I listen, and wonder if his mutterings have a smoldering flavor of something closely akin to regret -- or is it resentment? No, it is only frustration.

This morning, as I open my eyes, I mentally check in to be sure I have been successful in setting my intentions for the day. I take a deep breath and rise, setting my thoughts on the things I will impart to whoever has chosen to attend. As I begin my chores and preparations, however, I find that I have awakened to a third world country, without running water. There are sounds of mighty engines, churning and chewing the ground, struggling to bring us back into the first world, but I know this won't happen before I must begin my trek into The City. I sigh, I regroup, I rethink my approach, and try to find some comfort in knowing my Best Dress would only have been required if I were attending the Something Else, which I am not, for I am committed.

I sit down at my laptop, a last minute check of the virtual, before heading out into the real, and find an email. One of the officers needed today, sending his regrets, which threatens to reawaken mine. A momentary pause, then I shake them off, setting myself to the tasks at hand, reminding myself I Am Committed. People are contacted, information is shared, queries are sent, plans are set in motion. Crisis diverted, if not entirely averted.

I return to the virtual, postponing the real for just a moment longer, as I take inventory of where I sit with the tasks for today. I notice, in the corner of my mind, an irritation. A thought, or more like a suspicion. This is not like me, to experience these minor glitches as emotional obstacles to something which brings me such joy: sharing what I know. They are only glitches ... glitches ... glitches?!? Ah!

I bring up a search page, check my suspicion, and find I am correct.

Mercury is retrograde.

Well, of course, it is.
