The beat of love is a nasty one
they promise you heaven they promise you fun then the
next thing you know you are down on the floor
and you think you're in love
oh heaven above
it's just the beat of love.

"It's beginning."
"I see no change"
"You don't know where to look is all…"
She smiled as she spun out of his arms into the embrace of the Count to his left, the dance they participated in requiring many partner changes. And he was right, she thought, as she glanced over the room as it spun by… there were no overt changes, or anything out of the ordinary. But there were slight nuances she picked up on… shifts in emotion she could sense like no other… the machinations they'd devised while celebrating an amorous reunion were beginning to take effect.

The plan was a simple one, really… Find a pair of pious upstanding courtiers… truly pious and upstanding, not those who merely masqueraded… and device their fall from grace. An easy task for two deities of base human emotion, but like all games, it had it's challenges. Neither could use any divine influence on any of the participants, nor could they be directly involved - they needed to work through the mortals, and got extra points for each other person who managed to fall along the way. Everything would be done with free will firmly intact, and no direct influence from either of them.

The Chosen had been tough to choose, though they'd finally settled on two. The wife of an absent general, she herself convent raised and educated, in mass every morning at the crack of dawn, And a Chevalier Knight of Malta, one of the rare members not subjected to certain oaths, and yet perhaps more devoted then those who were.

Whispered and veiled suggestions had been offered to some of the more rakish attendees earlier at dinner time, just enough to make those two both a mild and new object of attention and familiarity. Already she'd heard the Viscountess both admire the Chevalier, and openly mock the supposed propriety of the general's wife.

Dite blinked as she felt a familiar hand on her hip once more, her smiling brightening as she saw her returned partner. "But I do… and it's beginning. It will be most enjoyable."
