and then there were two

The after-school scene of classroom 3-6 is currently occupied today. I hope you're enjoying your paperwork, Tezuka, because Fuji's currently seated across from you, jamming away on his Nintendo D*rite with a look of abstract concentration on his face. Which, of course, means that he's probably more focused on figuring out the most efficient angle ( Read more... )

Tezuka is more than a little aware of what Fuji's doing, although it doesn't draw his attention until the light is so dim that blocking it has any real effect. His head lifts from the paper, eyes taking in Fuji silhouetted with the sun behind him, and catches the other teenager's gaze for a moment.

"...I need to finish this before we can leave, Fuji." Aware the other teenager wants his attention but Fuji can wait until he's finished the paperwork for Ryuzaki-sensei. The problem is, he's not sure Fuji will want to and the fact they're alone in the classroom is brought to the forefront of his mind for a moment, just due to the fact Fuji is actually looking at him.

The blue-eyed boy blinks slowly, eyes curving like two, slow and beatific sunrises. He chuckles a little under his breath, which comes out light and airy in the empty room -- there is entirely too much space between the four walls of the classroom to capture an echo. His thumbs twists slightly as the game screen tilts, the character on-screen following suite dutifully.

"By all means, take your time. You won't hear me complaining." There is a smile in his tone as he predicts Tezuka's answer, solid and forth-coming. "After all, I did volunteer to keep you company."

Tezuka stilled at the words, eyes darting to the other teenager before he picked up the papers silently moving to another seat with better lighting. "You're free to go ahead if you'd rather. I'll be fine by myself." His voice gave nothing away, expression closed off as usual.

He settled in the chair, rearranging the papers before he bent his head again, finishing up the lists for Ryuzaki-sensei.

"And leave you here to brood by your lonesome? I think you're misjudging my character." He pushes a few more buttons on his gaming console, having turned his attention to the faintly-lit screen when Tezuka migrated over to a desk just a bit further away. With the desk now suddenly vacant and feeling a little vindictive, he shuffles his chair over so that it braces itself against the wall, and hoists both legs onto the corner of the empty desk.

His thumb moves over the joypad. Up, up, down, left, right, up. "If I left today and came back tomorrow to see that you've added another wrinkle to your worry line collection, I'd be beside myself with guilt."

"Somehow I doubt that." Tezuka didn't look up from his paperwork, filling in the last few blanks before he sorted the papers into the right order and stood, crossing the room to place the papers on Ryuzaki-sensei's desk.

"Done." The word was quiet as he spoke it, turning to look at the other boy in the classroom.

Fuji's lips quirk, mere bits and pieces of frayed ends at the corners of the sort of tapestries written in Old English. His thumb moves systematically as the character on-screen beats up fictional foes with each push of the joypad. "You're too efficient. I'm still on my last boss battle, you know."

"I don't see any point in wasting time with games like that." Tezuka watches him for a moment before moving to the window, gaze drawn to the courts below. They're empty now but it doesn't change anything really.

Out of the corner of his eyes, he notes the direction of Tezuka's eyes. Tennis, huh. It's one of those things that's naturally associated with Tezuka -- which is a bit ironic. The green of the courts have a tendency to offset brown in the strangest way, though he supposes that they're both earthy colors, anyway. It's just that very rarely will someone associate Tezuka with something that seems so distinctly natural.

He shrugs, letting his mind wander. "You don't see the point in a lot of things. But you know, sometimes, the challenges of life can be solved with a click of a button."

"The challenges of life as you call them, take more than a button to solved." Tezuka leaned against the window, attention shifting to Fuji before his eyes half closed. The other boy knew that of course but it felt like he should correct him anyway.

"Are you ready to go or should I wait downstairs while you finish your game." He did have things to do at home.
