AUTHOR: Dennis Cooper
WHAT'S IT ABOUT?: Dennis is obsessed with a snuff photograph he finds which seems to be unimaginably mutilated. His obsession leads him into sadomasochistic encounters where it is difficult to decipher what is real and what is fiction.

There are a couple of scenes in this book that are so unbelievably grisly its guaranteed to keep you awake. The writing is beautiful and the entire story is a brute force. I'm a huge Cooper fan and this is one of my favorites.

AUTHOR: Mo Yan
WHAT'S IT ABOUT?: A tale for the strong stomach, and banned in China, this is an epic yet brutal novel depicting life in rural China in the aftermath of an uprising. Elegant, sickening, and a tour de force.

This is the only book that will actually cause you to conjure up the scent of garlic so viscerally you will literally feel it rising in your stomach. Mo Yan is an author absolutely everyone should be reading.

WHAT'S IT ABOUT: Shocking non-fiction memoir of the author's four year incestuous relationship with her father.

Strangely, or maybe not so strange that there is few books out there that write honestly and openly about incest. A staggering read.
TITLE: The Average American Male
AUTHOR: Chad Kultgen
WHAT'S IT ABOUT: Self-hating and sex obsessed misogynistic narrator takes us for a stroll through his world in the most vulgar and explicit way possible.

WHAT'S IT ABOUT: Nina,a prostitute who uses sex as a coping mechanism for her emotional suffering. Twisted into a web involving a sadistic couple, and eventually committed to a psych ward, it seems everything that should be helping her serves only to drive her deeper into self destruction.

Terribly painful, nearly unbearable to read due to Nina's rapid decline. Author committed suicide in 2002.
