Writing

Well, that thing I started a little while ago has stalled. I just don't feel the impulse that was driving it anymore. And I lost the scrap of paper that listed some of the moments I wanted to hit in the next few thousand words and I can't remember what they were anyway. Dang it. I still want to tell the story, because I want to see where the kinda wierd things that I had in mind might end up.

But I also realised that one of my short stories was being so difficult to write because it was all about how a family interacts and yet I had only shown them AFTER a change in bahaviour. So I decided to write a new beginning that shows them how they were to begin and so the effect of the change is more visible (or visible at all really...)

And in maybe half an hour I've got 1,200 words, plus more that'll be coming before we get to where I starte dthe original draft, plus the events of that draft. Which, because it was not working quite how I wanted, I hadn't written the last scenes to, though I knew how they went.

Which means I'll have plenty of raw material to whittle at once I get all those sections together. Hooray!

I realsied something similar about another story so I'll write a new beginning to that one once I get all these pieces together (imagine, a completed project?! For me, that's like unto a vision from God. Of course, then comes the editing stages...)

And two much older stories I'd like to just write again without reference to the original versions, just to see if they feel better now.

In reference to taking the time to do writing I must mention this. The great thing about retaking a bunch of papers that one has failed in a Teaching Diploma is that I already passed the 'go and teach in a school' part. So for the next month I'm going to have time off and no assignments while most of my compatriots are labouring in schools! Hahahahaha!

I'll try to take some of that time to get ahead (I think I'm actually a little behind right now to be truthful...) but it also means I don't need to panic nearly as much asI might otherwise be prone too.

Finally, something to do next Wednesday if anyone's interested?
