Okay, so, I got to see
Cripple Mr Onion at Hysteria on Friday night!
It's only been about 3 or 4 years of waiting. Not bad really.
The only played a few songs off their ep Chronocide, but they played good stuff. Six Days of Silence, A.I., Sleep of the Dead, Gibbering Rex Gets Carpet Burn. A.I. was brilliant, because they use a voicebox to get the robo voice thing going during it. But they started off by playing the beginning to Living on a Prayer (with the voicebox Oh Oh, Oh Oh stuff) then just burst into A.I. That was great.
They chucked out a few demo CD's of their new album (which had better be out soon dammit!) and I nearly grabbed one but this chick nmext to me got there first. Still, I mananged to get her number and hopefully I'll convince her to get me a copy. I really want to familiarise myself with the new songs, I loved hearing them but I wanted to be singing along too!
It was interesting seeing bands in such a small venue (given I've only really been to see internationals before). Generally I've noticed that metal crowds get bouncy and teeming, but in the small venue no-one seemed to want to be first to move up the front or even move period. Which meant that I got to watch Cripple while basically leaning on the speakers between Az and Shoki for the whole gig. Yay. No being crushed by massive metallers for me that night!
My neck is still really really sore from being thrown about all over the show. I can barely move it. The sign of a good gig IMO.
Ostia and Mark turned up just as they started which was cool, but they vanished before I left the stage area at the end. Not sure what happened there, hope they at least got their $7 entry fee's worth.
The band before them was excellent too, Set On End. They had an unfinished song in the set but I'm not sure if the singer stood and watched because it was instrumental or because they hadn't gotten to the stage of lyrics.
After the bands I hung around the bar til about 3.30-4, making sure to say to a few of the band members that I was thoroughly impressed and awed to finally get to see them. They were good blokes, very easy to go up to a talk to.
Last night I went to symphony in the park with some mates which was pretty good. Half old school classical, half a bit contemporary. Bumped into a girl I knew in school and got her new mobile number, found out she's getting married in April, which was awesome. Another old school bud txted me with some pretty rough news this morning, so I'm going to have to catch up with her and see how she's doing.
Oo, and the fireworks at the symphony were spectacular, especially when coupled with the artillery during the 1812. Good stuff.
