Touche, Mr Phonanopolis, touche.

So last saturday I went round to an old mates place for their halloween party. His woman considers Halloween to be her annual religous festival, so it was a bit of a shame that more people didn't turn up and dress up to the nines. There were some decent outfits, but also some just wearing aliens masks and then coughing when they tried to have a cigarette with it on.

My sister
Tina, who is very pregnant, rigged up a monster bursting out of her stomach. Very classy. I myself decided to go in full Rocky Horror splendour. Yes, there will be photos eventually but for now just picture thick makeup, a pink feather boa, a corset, black boxers, fishnet gloves and tights and high heels.

I was beautiful.

The party was smaller than expected and I was very cold. Also, I have NOT been feeling well, so I left by 10 pm. I know, pretty appalling. I'll be making up for it in general terms I'm sure.

I was sitting with my pregnant sister at work last night and she started squaking. She is due on Boxing Day (though she always manages to have some tremendous thing go wrong on Christmas so we all know that's the real due date) and the baby was moving around.

I turned to look and watched as sections of her stomach rose and moved slowly around. It was like she had a little alien squirming under there! I don't ever recall Annalise moving around to the extent that it looked like
Louise was an extra in some strange horror movie.

Tina got me to feel the movement and it was really creepy.

For a year Louise and I lived in a flat with other people. Most of the time they weren't very reliable as flatmates but there was one Anthony Plant, who was just great. Even though he was in a band and practised guitar all the time and all that sort of thing, he was really really great to have around the house.

He just moved in with the guys who had the Halloween party and I went round to see him. God its been good to see all these old faces in the last few weeks!

Tina and I got out a stack of DVDs from her local store ('You wouldn't steal a car would you?') and one that made me squeal excitedly and snatch it off the rack was the very first season of The Muppet Show. So cool!

I took it over to Sarah's, picking her up from work on the way, and we started wacthing. It was strange to see, so many voices and characters weren't really sorted out yet and some of the puppets looked very very low grade. Gonzo's nose looked like it was made of crumpled papier mache!

Still, as per usual, pillowfighting erupted only this time there was the addition of vivids and attempts to draw on faces. We gave up on the Muppets and decided that we weren't tired so we'd trek out to Piha.

Man I've missed the beaches.

I mean, I've known that I hated not getting to go to the beach in Woodville and feeling really frustrated whenever other people told me about going. And I felt great swimming down in Mairangi Bay. But it wasn't until I was walking along the sand at Piha next to the roaring surf and looking at the sprawling stars overhead that I really felt it.

There is something about the beach that is just you and the elements. Nothing else around. Even if there's a bustling CBD behind you and city lights blotting out the stars, its something basic.

We didn't leave til about 12.40, but I'm going to be makign the effort to go to the beach way more often when I get back to Woodville. I just hope I can find people to come with me, but if not I'll be fine.

Because it was so late by the time we got back I just crashed at Sarah's but there was more fighting before we managed to fall asleep. To cut a long story short, I lost the battle of the Vivids but not without inflicting some damamge before I surrendered (and after actually, which just got her all worked up again...).

I've always got into trouble with rough housing. I can never quite work out when I'm crossing the line into actually hurting people and so I've tended to just not do it, because its safer to not hurt them. I thought I was doing okay until the next morning Sarah shows me her swollen wrist. Her boss paid to get it checked out and I sprained it.

Dammit. I thought I'd done so well.

Lots of music on the radio has really gotten to me recently. There's that one Snow Patrol song that just sums up life in general, Chasing Cars. I would love to just lie down and forget the world. That refeerence ot lying with me is a little painful, but the songs good.

Another that strikes me in a similar way is a new song by StoneSour called Through Glass. Even for those of you who don't like rock, I think you'll agree its got a little something. Stone Sour is the side project of the singer from Slipknot but the incredible thing about it is that it is melodic and that he really does have a lovely voice when he's not screaming (which he doesn't do in Stone Sour) and its beautiful stuff. I'm thinking of getting both those albums.

Then there's that goddamn Lips of an Angel song by Hinder. Is this only on the rock stations or did it sneak into pop radio too? You guys know the ones I mean? I cannot bloody stand that song. You know why? Because its about someone cheating on their other half whos in the next room. Sometimes its not sure whether they actually did cheat or whether they're just tempted, but from the way they sing about the temptation... It just seems awful to me. Yet I think people like it cause they hear it as a love song.

I was introduced to rolling ice creams at work recently. There is one reason I tell you this. The waffle cones we use come from...

Mount Warning!

Most of you won't get that. I don't care.
