turning around in circles under the hot shower head, trying to figure out what to do now
being with
nick in his apartment, eating corn flakes and drinking good coffee is a nice way to relax before i head out to another internet cafe with glass phone booths, pull out my crumbling square of paper with numerous numbers from my camera bag, and dial, hoping to get an interview, a copy of a video, contact with someone who can help me make sense of what this project is that i am doing. a month is not enough time to understand it, let alone find time in which others have time to meet with me. periodistas are always busy. bolivians are often late. i am, too, so it often works out well.
last night i interviewed with a
fellow who had many doubts and worries about my intentions, that i might be affiliated with USAID, and share his interview with the government and/or Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada. we sat in nick's apartment and the woman he brought wtih him expressed to me how much she hated english, how ugly it was, how she only spoke quechua, aymara and spanish (only). her answer to every question led to paragraphs of words, and a face full of fury and anger that she tried to sigh and shrug off at points but she couldn't. she hated the ex president, she hated the United States for harboring him, loving him and for nuturing him and teaching him to bring their interests to Bolivia. ¨he speaks spanish like a foreigner, more or less like you.¨
they left, i held my head in my hands for a moment, and went to the kitchen to open up the $2 bottle of white wine i had brought nick as a thank you gift for his couch and breakfast and company.
Bolivia is a beautiful place, and all I want in this short movie is to show why and what makes it so, to me, and how
this event is an important part of its past and present, how all are affected, and how justice has been sought and fought for ever since.
i have a week to edit, and i am not done filming. i also have to write a paper by wednesday for goucher college because they are unlenient fascists. i pulled a muscle in my back and it hurts when i breathe.
