And I always loved it when kids did something like that - when I left a school after having helped out for a day a week for about five weeks, they gave me a massive card signed by all the kids, and some of the messages were really sweet!
The kids might drive you up the wall occasionally, but they're also capable of doing the sweetest things.
Somewhere, I hope, is a card given to me by a bunch of Year 9 students from Warrington with lots of little in-jokes and so on. The first student gift I got was when I did my work experience at a primary school and then went to NZ for six months - each kid from the form I spent most time with wrote a letter for me and they put them all in a big envelope and sent them to me. I never got homesick in NZ, but the letters made me cry lots. In a good way.
I do love kids. I don't think I will ever convince myself to work full time with them again, but that's because of me, not them!
I have a book full of 'handwriting exercise' letters a bunch of 7 year olds gave me all thanking me for helping them make space pictures and for doing music with them.
Chocolate.
Sipping tea.
Being welcomed back by a big poster signed by my form.
Getting to school without any traffic woes even though there was still some snow around.
The boyfriend.
