Whoever it was who gave me a cold as an early Christmas present, have you got the receipt? I want you to take it back and make me feel BETTER! I hate being sick, and I have to deal with the Christmas shopping crowds on Thursday to get milk, and other boring stuff. My voice is somewhat hoarse, and I'm all clogged up, and to make it way worse I decided to go Bromley shopping for shoes today (BAD PLAN) and ended up returning in less than an hour (I spent about a half hour waiting for the bus to come home), because I was feeling lousy.
Anyway. Wandering around Bromley was an utter bust, I didn't have any idea as to what sort of calendar I was looking for (I had a Robbie one this year, I'm wondering if I need something slightly more grown up, but my inner-teenager-with-a-crush wants more Robbie-ness). I also found a pair of boots, but they were a bit big, so I think I'll keep looking, although if I have to go smaller, the boots will end up being size 2, and that's down to kids sizes. Kids sizes that don't tend to have a good heel going on - they don't go tall enough & I like being able to compensate for my lack of height.
I had fun at
serenasnape's Candlelit Carol Service, and towards the end was actually singing properly, instead of making squeaky noises. It was nice to see a lot of
thecupboard and then go to the pub afterwards. I really need to see
ford_prefect6 and
keith_hood very soon so I can give them their presents, and
paranoid_blonde is headed my way on Friday to get her present, so I will still get to see people. (P.S.
keith_hood, if you see this, I don't particularly want to head in to Bromley again this close to Christmas - so if you want your pressie before Christmas you are going to have to come a visiting to my house - I'd visit you, but... I don't want to! - I'm kidding, if you want me to come a-visiting say the word and I will endeavour to find a bus to yours.)
I think that's about it for my life, although my Dad has asked me when I'm getting my other Christmas presents - a question which lead to me going 'You what?!', and then having a discussion about the fact that he wants to buy more than a couple of Terry Pratchetts for me for Christmas - which means I have to come up with some other things that he can buy me. The problem is, that apart from a replacement pair of boots, and a couple of bits and pieces of make-up that I wouldn't ask him to buy, I don't actually want anything. I am looking forward to Christmas weekend though - we're having a delicious series of meals from Christmas Eve til the day after boxing day, and only one of them requires me to do much towards it!
01. What did you do in 2006 that you'd never done before?
I went to Germany.
02. How did you see in the new year?
Online with a glass of margarita, playing 20 questions on MSN with
potatocubed,
forgiveninasong,
paranoid_blonde, and
keith_hood.
03. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't make any last year, and yes, I do have one this year, but I'm not telling anyone until I manage it. And then you'll all understand why I'm not sharing.
04. Did someone close to you give birth?
No, unless my friends are hiding things from me.
05. Did anyone close to you die?
No. Which is a blessing.
06. What countries did you visit?
Germany. I had a compulsion halfway through to just dump everything and bugger off to Italy (I love Italy) or somewhere that I've never been, but I decided I couldn't afford it.
07. What would you like to have in 2007 that you lacked in 2006?
A job that I actually want to go to.
08. What date from 2006 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
There isn't anything particularly memorable about 2006 for me. Any memorable dates aren't really dates, but rather periods of time where I decided to change.
09. What was your biggest achievement(s) of the year?
Becoming a happier person.
10. What was your biggest failure(s)?
Being unable to change my life as much as I want to, and not having got a job.
11. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I don't really think so. A couple of bouts of light flu, and I injured my knee a couple of times that meant I couldn't walk anyway for a day or two & I had a couple of trapped nerves. But nothing serious.
12. What was the best thing you bought?
I didn't buy it, but I love it - My Motorola RAZR V3. It's gorgeous, it's sleek, and it has a camera. I love it!
13. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
Keith_hood for being the little brother I never had, and never telling me that I was boring for not having anything to talk about.
kashmanik for not completely losing it when he got his bad news this year (I know I haven't said anything to you, but I hope you do see this). Also, various friends for supporting me through yet another year of not having a life.
14. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?
My father's - although I don't see how it's going to change - and I'm dealing with it. If there is anybody else, I'm not going to make them any better by badmouthing them on my lj.
15. Where did most of your money go?
The occasional DVD, bus journeys to Sainsbury's & the cinema.
16. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
Oh, boy. Casino Royale. The Hogfather on Sky One. & the possibility that it might snow before Christmas this year (which has since been changed, but I did get excited at the time.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Emailed important people, & enjoyed the world.
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
I'm not sure about this question. I'm tempted to say I wish I'd complained about my life less, but to be honest the only way I really realised that I needed to change it, is when I was complaining.
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
At home with a large lump of fillet steak. Oh, and there'll be my cuddly cats as well. Duh, and my Dad.
21. Did you fall in love in 2006?
No.
22. How many one-night stands?
I should be so lucky.
23. What was your favorite TV program?
CSI - New York. Oh, and I quite like watching the news of an evening as well (in a keeping informed kind of way, not a 'I like the bad things on there' way.)
24. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
There are some people who I'm not as fond of as I was, but I try not to hate people - it's bad Karma dontcha know.
25. What was the best book you read?
Gah?! One Book? Are you crazy? I have no clue how to narrow it down to one, so if you really want to know what I like - go find my entries that are tagged with 'books'.
26. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Haven't really. Not much of a music gal.
27. What did you want and get?
To be comfortable with myself & my situation.
28. What did you want and not get?
My Dad to leave the house occasionally. Oh, and a pair of strong loving arms to keep me safe...
29. Favorite film of this year?
All together now... Casino Royale!
30. What music will you remember from this year?
There's a lot of hideous stuff out there, but I will remember the title song from the newest Snow Patrol album. Unfortunately I can't actually buy the album because it reminds me of Andy too much.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
I was 22. I spent the day with
Keith_hood, we went to the cinema for Pirates 2, and then to the pub. It wasn't my ideal day, but it was nice to spend the day with Keith.

Not giving up on my teenaged self.
34. What kept you sane?
To be honest? Me. I did that.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Feel free to mock me, but Robbie Williams. I can't help it. The guy just has... something.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
You want a numbered list? Or shall I just say that the world is in chaos, and it certainly isn't my fault.
37. Who do you miss?
Anyasbuttmonkey for some reason! Most of my friends were elsewhere this year, so in a way, I missed all of them. However, 2007 I shall make it out of the house more often, be prepared for visits you guys.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
*frown* Could it be...
forgiveninasong maybe? She is after all the love of
paranoid_blonde's life and everything.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2006:
That, generally, life is good but sometimes you have to seek out the really good things.
40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year:
"Life is like a box of matches, sometimes the whole thing catches, and all you can do is watch it burn."
Congratulations if you made it all the way down here, it's quite a long & boring entry, and I don't think anyone else has!
ETA - OOoooh. New Challenge Anneka! I remember that from when I was a little girl, it's so weird that they've recorded a new one!
