You know what's coming...

Not quite as nerve-wracking and scary as the first episodes, obviously we’re settling in for the remaining seven. Unfortunately this means that there is less for me to talk about - last week I filled a whole A5 page with teeny notes about the things I wanted mention about that episode. This week I didn’t hit the bottom of the page and my writing was medium at best.

Anyway, on with the show. The first thing I notice is we come in halfway through the story. What about the difficulties of Zaf actually trying to infiltrate the cell? How are we to feel how hard it is for him to be in that situation if we have no idea how he got there? Did he walk in and say 'Hey you guys I hear you wanna blow up the evil that is London - I'm in?' Or was it a case of several months' worth of work? Enquiring minds want to know. Along side the "we're going to blow up London" plot was the "Harry Lurves Ruth" plot. However, from the dinner together I couldn't see Ruth sticking it out. I didn't see that it would be over so quickly, but I couldn't see it lasting. The writers are on top form still though, top lines being "She fancies you" - doesn't everyone?, "you want to gazump Al-qaeda" - made me giggle, and the bit where Adam and Jo were talking and Jo brings up Harry and Ruth, and Adam's reaction to that was... lovely.

On to the character assassination. Or rather, my feelings about Ros, last week I seem to remember being quite cruel about her. This week I wish I had been much meaner about her. She makes bad calls, she seems to think that civilian lives are less important than the lives of MI-# agents. Of course, her father has just been bad, and she’s not happy about that, and of course she’s the new girl - and nobody likes to be that, but does she really need to join up as the Ice Queen? I was willing to cut her a break, but her treatment of Jo - the ‘You know this already’ scene, and the ‘You owe me one’ scene (how does Jo owe Ros anyway?) - and her general treatment of Leigh, apart from the occasional kind word she was downright nasty to someone she had just dragged off the street and basically forced to work for MI-5 without any choice. And she showed no remorse about the fact that the poor innocent girl who was conned into working for them got stabbed.

Slight problems with the plot include, the guy would have noticed the fireworks in the microwave, he was sitting facing the kitchen. Also, since when did it snow in Gran Canaria? And if it doesn't, why in the world would they sell snowstorms there? Mr Bad Bomb Guy - what kind of accent was that? It certainly wasn't a South African accent, although that's what it was trying to be...Also, I can't understand how they didn't have a locator beacon on Jo, after all they've done it before and it would have meant less nearly dying for Jo. Why didn't the blokes call an ambulance when Leigh got stabbed? They should have, once the other guy had been knocked out.

As a final thought - Religion does not provide the answers. It only provides a path so you can find your own answers.

As well as watching Spooks today I have washed some towels and made the casserole I was supposed to make last night. It went down very well, and I enjoyed it A LOT. That's about it, and I'm still remarkably bored (and quite miserable - but that's mainly my fault). However, the new Terry Pratchett comes out in three days time, and I have it on order from Amazon, so I should get it in a couple of days. I'm so excited!
