Hey, so this is the second part of the " ask the maker" questions and requests. I'm sorry it took me so long but... you'll see, there are a lot of words to make up for that ( Read more... )

Lol for the first time i see a maker who colors EXACTLY like i do :D Curves is one tool you generally see in tutorials and replies to "ask the maker" questions. Selective colors are used by them only to enhance, not to color boldly. And it used to make me insecure about the way i color: maybe i do it wrong or unfair? But lol you gave me an amount of confidence :D Apart from that, i must say i found this post very useful, interesting to read and worth to advise to read when you, for example, reject people in application posts in elites :D Now i've gone too vague, i should stop %)

PS i've always wanted to ask why your username is so Russian, just as your name is? xDDD No, i do know that the name Anna is very popular in Germany, but your username...my German's woren off too much to remember what's the German for "chocolate" :D

Well, I think there's no right or wrong way to abuse photoshop when it's just a hobby and when you just do it for fun. So, IMO, as long as you're happy with the results that you're getting, just keep doing what you're doing.

My username is actually the Hebrew word for chocolate... the German is Schokolade, but I think that was already taken. Also, I wanted something in Hebrew.
My parents actually named me after two little girls they saw in a hotel before I was born (at least that's what my mom tells me), Anna and Valentina. Both are kind of Russian to me... idk, I might be wrong. But I don't think I have any Russian relatives or anything. Probably too much information... sorry about that :)

Well, yes, but you know there was a rant about text textures, and it became a shame to use them. So i'm completely lost :D

Oh, i see :D And no, not at all, information is nice :D I was named after my mom's best friend, also Yulia :) Yeah, those girls' names seem Russian, although they could be from Ukraine or Bulgaria as well...

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of text textures. I just don't think that they make a lot of sense on 98% of the icons they're used on. But I don't think that you can categorically say that something is wrong or bad or shouldn't be done. Everything can work if done right.

Well, the origin of your name is a lot nicer than mine than because it's something personal. My parent's just took the names from complete strangers xD But I don't mind. The alternative would have been Maximiliane... which is just too long and prompts too many nick names.

This is fantastic! For some reason I've never really explored the saturation tool, so knowing you can up certain channels is wonderful ♥ Also: I've been meaning to get bold with colour fill layers: maybe now is the time!

I'm glad to hear that this isn't 100% useless :D I was afraid that this was way too vague. A lot of my process in photoshop is doing random things. At least half of the time I just click through billions of different settings until I end up with something I like. So... it gets a little difficult to pretend that everything was done with intention and a certain outcome in mind.

Anyway, fill layers are fun. I haven't used them in a while but I've started a 20in20 a few days ago and now I can't seem to do anything without them.

Great tutorial. I tend to wuss out with selective coloring most of the time, so this is a nice little push. And the color wheel is always a great tip to spread around!

I guess I'm overusing selective color layers a bit sometimes. At least that's what I'm thinking in hindsight. But I get so caught up in them... But I don't want to curb your enthusiasm. Selective coloring is awesome :D
