Yesterday I had what could -almost- be described as a good day at work. It certainly sucked less than the rest of the week. There was more of a jovial atmosphere around the place. We managed to have a bit of a laugh and a joke which lightened the mood immensely. Then towards the end of the day I was confronted with this:
The head of HR at the company asked me whether I was still planning to leave. I said that I was due to the fact that I was unable to make a proper living doing what I'm doing. She said would it make a difference whether I was given an immediate payrise. This would make a bit of a difference but it would have to depend on the scale of the payrise. At least it shows I'm reasonably valued there. Anyway, we continued chatting and it seems that the company are prepared to do a few things in order to keep me at the place, for example sticking me on a shorter dispensary technician's course.
I dangled a proverbial bit of bait in the water when I told her that I wasn't sure that I even wanted to stay as a dispenser to which she replied (after a little thought) "what about, hypothetically, if you could have your own branch'. I told her I'd havae to think about it.
I'm still going to look for other jobs. It is going to have to be a pretty good offer from them in order for me to stay.
Watch this space though.
