Monday's rock climbing was a hell of a lot of fun. It was on the uni climbing wall, which is decidedly basic, but its free, and gave me the opportunity to remind myself of the various Knotts and procedures. I met the uni climbing society, who were a really sound bunch, which was nice, ive been invited along on a climbing trip to the French alps at Easter, which sounds like a highly pleasant proposition.
After a few climbing sessions, I am getting stronger again in my arms, which is excelent, and much needed. Im hoping to go swimming a bit more regularly as well, which will help with the genral fitness.
Tuesday consisted of swords, which again, was rather enjoyable. The two groups, one which was being taught/refreshed on the basics by
jellybearwhore (well done dude!), and the more senior group, who were doing short sword and buckler. Awesome.
Some fantastic moves were learnt, and I grew to hate the buckler. Its all very well, until you are having a volley of attacks practised on you, and time after time you end up with the damned thing in your line of vision between your head and your opponents sword.
This is very much the idea, as it allows for the 'killing or seriously disabilitating strike' to occur, on an unprotected lower part of the body. However, the idea of perspex or similar bucklers, or at least ones with a convenient window would most certainly not go amiss.
