Well I've been back from Canada for almost a month now and the fishing trip was nice but a bit tiring. I've kind of neglected writing about this since it isn't a terribly exciting or interesting story. It was just a typical fishing trip with a stop over in Minneapolis to visit my aunt and cousin. Mostly caught Northern Pike up there and a few Lake Trout. We were going to fish for some walleye but the lake was partially frozen, and none of the portage lakes had any and it would have required a fly out to get to one that did. Walleye up in Northern Manitoba were pretty small though, Walleye fishing is better further south.
None of it was very straining on my right arm either, northern pike don't really put up much of fight when reeling them in. They roll over quite easily once they are snagged, its almost like they knew we were doing catch and release. Lake trout put up a bigger fight, but we caught like a total of six of those that there was no real problem. Still they were nothing compared to the Sailfish I caught in the gulf of mexico and the Halibut up in Alaska. Those were fullblown workouts to reel in.
It wasn't quite as relaxing of a vacation though as I wanted it to be. I suffered from insomnia the vacation and I think flying on planes will always be a source of anxiety for me after that 17 hour international flight on my trip to China 4 year agos.
