Does adulthood mean anything? While talking to Hunter, we discussed this topic. He had this romantic idea of children, mortgages, and the civil suicide that is marriage. The only way I'd be able to achieve 2 of those criteria is through identity manipulation . . . so am I Peter Pan?
I intensely disagree. Age, like time and national boundaries, is an artificial division, an absurd qualifier and quantifier. Much of modern American society uses the assumpption of time to facilitate innumerable tasks. But, how important is time? I contend that the conception of time is dispensible as is age.
Maybe if we lived in another society, age would possess some significant meaning. Yet, our conception of age, like all other demographics, is a marketing segmentation, overwhelmed with stereotypes. Therefore, simple minds perpetuate the cliche.
