As you read this, Samuel Alito - a real threat to women's rights and health - is making his remarks to the Senate on the first day of his U.S. Supreme Court confirmation hearings. If he is confirmed, it would be the most direct assault on women's rights in decades. We cannot let that happen.
President Bush and his radical right-wing allies are just a few days away from stacking the court to impose their extremist views on you and me - and on our children. We must take action right now - it all comes down to this week's Senate hearings.
You can expect Alito to dodge questions during the hearings, avoiding the truth in order to paint himself as a moderate. He and the White House have been tight-lipped since his nomination, refusing to release documents from his time in the Office of the Solicitor General.
But the facts don't lie: Alito has admitted that he opposes the right to choose, and he has spent his career as an ultraconservative judge chipping away at the right to privacy and the protections for women's health that are guaranteed by the landmark 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade.
In a 1985 memo released by the National Archives, Judge Samuel Alito outlines a legal and political strategy to eventually overturn Roe v. Wade.
