I feel good because I just had a nice rant at some twats on a messageboard for slagging off Violet Violet. Ok, i'm going to have to explain this a little bit I guess. Basically, I went to some battle of the bands gig in Great Yarmouth (which isn't so great anymore because it's full of chavs, not like it was in the good old days, anyway, back to the story) because we're playing in it next week, and also I wanted to see this band Violet Violet. I'd heard some stuff by a couple of the members previous band Rockastella and they sounded pretty cool so I thought i'd check them out. First on were this Rock band who played some dodgy covers, "breaking the law" that kind of stuff, they were shite. The singer was about 50 and looked like he was having a fit. Anyway, Violet Violet came on and although the sound was crap for them I thought they were really good, quite punky but in more of a kaito-ish type way.
So, that was a brief description of the gig. I check out the BOTB messageboard to see that they were getting well and truly slagged off by pretty much everyone, including one of the judges. Apparently the female judge on the night called them whores on the actual scoresheet, nice helpful musical feedback there then.
Yeah, that's about it then, i've been pretty much singlehandedly trying to educate the tools on the board that Violet Violet were not actually trying to be your average "Rock" type band which is what people seem to be comparing them to. They were a very good original Alternative band but unfortunately the people who go to these things seem to have no idea about anything other than Classic Rock or Metal and big hair. We should cover Cut Your Hair next week. I was thinking of dedicating "Things, People & Stuff" (lyrically it'd kinda make sense) to Violet Violet to show our support for the only other genuinely different band in the competition but then again the judges would probably just hold that against us and mark us down some points.
We're going to lose but fuck it, we'll go out with style and do it our way.
