nervous - Quinn/Cooper; G
thirty days of writing | formal

He hates being nervous.

It's not a feeling he's altogether accustomed to, has always been so sure of himself about pretty much everything, but now it's different.

Now he's taking things seriously, and not just with his job, but with his life.

He frowns a little as he adjusts his tie, feeling like it's not straight, even though it probably is.

Nervous, he thinks, his frown deepening as he yanks it loose to tie it again.

And then she's blocking the mirror, a small smile on her face as she raises her hazel eyes to his face.

"It was fine, Coop," she murmurs, "but leave it alone, and I'll do it."

He lets his hands fall to his sides, his lips curving as he looks down at her.

Her blonde hair is curly, pulled back on the sides and fastened with a small black clip at the back of her head. It's just long enough to touch the back of her dress, which is pink and lacy from what he can tell in the mirror, but he can't quite get a good look at it.

Simple diamond studs sparkle in her ears, and his smile widens, knowing they're the ones he gave her for their one year anniversary just a couple of months ago.

Her brow creases slightly as she works his tie, and he drops a kiss to the top of her head, unable to resist because she's standing right there.

She's smiling when he straightens, and then says, "There," as she gives his tie a gentle tug. "Don't mess with it again."

He laughs and nods, raising his hands to her arms as she looks up at him again.

"Ready to go?"

He takes a breath, and his eyes drift closed.

"Don't be nervous," she says softly.

He opens his eyes, staring at her in surprise, and she smiles.

"You're gonna do fine. The movie's already getting excellent reviews, and so are you."

"It's just a supporting role," he murmurs.

She shakes her head, lifting her hand to his face. "You're just as important as everyone else. People are gonna notice you, Coop, I know it. This is what's going to make everything happen."

She tilts her head a little, sweeping her thumb over his cheek. "I know you wanted Blaine to be there, and I know he hates having to miss this."

He shrugs, the corner of his mouth rising. "He's off doing his thing on Broadway."

She smiles. "The famous Anderson brothers."

A short laugh escapes him, and he nods, smiling down at her. "But at least I've got you."

She grins as she pushes up a little on her toes to kiss him, and then steps around him, taking a few steps back before holding out her arms.

"So, do I look okay for your first big movie premiere?"

He gets a better look at her dress now, strapless and deep pink, and lace from top to bottom. The skirt falls just above her knees, and her black-painted toenails peek out from the toe of her open-toed black heels.

He smiles and nods. "You look absolutely perfect. Nobody's gonna even notice me."

"Of course they will. You look very dashing in that suit."

He laughs, and she grins as she steps forward, reaching for his hand.

"Still nervous?"

He nods, laughing a little breathlessly, and she squeezes his fingers. "Deep breaths. Everything's gonna be fine."

He does as she instructs, pulling in a deep breath through his nose, and then tugs her closer for another kiss before allowing her to lead him from the bedroom.
