Will backed out of his classroom, juggling the sheaf of Spanish tests in his hand as he fumbled for his keys to lock the door. He felt a certain kind of hollow sadness as he shoved the tests into his bag, knowing that later that night most of them would end up covered with red marks and low scores.

He knew of at least one student who would garner a higher than passing grade: Quinn Fabray. She was an anomaly among the Cheerios in that she actually tried to do well in her classes while the other girls coasted through on the fear inspired by Sue Sylvester. Not that she was a Cheerio anymore, of course. Sue had certainly seen to that.

He sighed and started down the hallway, thinking of getting home to his tiny but surprisingly cozy one bedroom apartment. The school was pretty much deserted this late in the afternoon and his shoes squeaked gently on the linoleum.

He lost himself in trying to figure out what to fix for dinner. Now that he and Terri were no longer together, he felt a certain kind of liberty even with small things, like being able to eat what he liked or go to bed when he wanted.

A small smile touched his lips and faded almost instantly as he heard a sound other than that of his shoes. He slowed to a stop and listened, realizing it was the sound of somebody crying.

He looked up and noticed he was outside of the music room. A sniffle and a hiccupping sound drifted from the open door and he poked his head inside but was unable to immediately see anybody, though the breathy sobs continued.

He stepped forward and the top of a blonde head appeared beyond the piano. For one wild (and admittedly frightening) moment he thought it might be Terri until he stepped closer and saw that the hair was a lighter shade of blonde and longer, lying in gentle curls down the girl's back. He recognized the dress and realized it was Quinn.

He said her name softly, frowning as he stepped around the piano. She gave a tiny gasp and her fingers flew to her face, hurriedly wiping her eyes.

"I thought everyone was gone," she murmured.

"So did I," he said, pulling a chair over and sitting down in front of her. "What're you still doing here?"

Quinn shrugged, eyes on her hands. "I'm still staying at Finn's and he hates me now, so I don't want to go home. I keep getting the dumbest food cravings, my feet hurt, and earlier the stupid zipper on this dress broke and it's the last one I have that still fits and I can't afford to buy another one because nobody wants to hire a fat pregnant girl." Tears tracked slowly down her cheeks as she continued to stare downward, her hands splayed on her belly.

Will watched her a moment, emotions warring for dominance within him, anger and pity chief among them.

"Quinn, I know you were planning to give Terri your baby, but..." He swallowed, frowning. "Was she giving you any money?"

A humorless laugh escaped Quinn's lips and she shook her head. "No."

Will shut his eyes momentarily, trying to tamp down the surge of anger he felt. He had never expected Terri to be that cold but thinking back on all of the things that had come to light recently, he supposed he should have expected it.

He picked up his bag and rummaged around in the bottom of it before producing a safety pin, used as an unlikely staple several months before on a paper one of his students had turned in.

He held it up to Quinn, eyebrows raised in the question and she nodded, her lips curving very slightly upward.

He stood and stepped behind her, carefully pushing her hair aside and fastening the pin where the zipper had come apart.

"Thanks, Mr. Schue," she murmured as he came back around in front of her. He picked up his bag and held out his hand. She took it, smiling, and allowed him to pull her to her feet.

"Let me take you shopping for some new clothes, Quinn," he said. She looked up sharply, her eyes still shining with unshed tears.

"You don't... you can't afford that, Mr. Schue," she protested but he shook his head.

"My wife basically tried to steal your baby," he said and Quinn laughed shakily. "It's the least I could do."

Quinn considered him for a moment and then nodded. "Thank you, Mr. Schue. I'll try to pay you back, I promise."

He smiled at her. "Just stay in Glee. That's all I ask."

She grinned at him and then he surprised the both of them by placing a gentle kiss on her forehead. Her arms went around his middle and she hugged him tightly, just for a moment, thanking him more in that small gesture than she ever could with words.

They left the room and at some point between the school and his car, she took his hand.
