Patriotism, a non-partisan call to civic duty

The only thing required in order to make a functioning democracy is an informed electorate.

If you haven't already, read about the propositions, ask someone what they think the propositions are all about, and make an informed decision on why to vote a particular way. Remember, a vote no on a proposition is a vote to change nothing and leave it to your elected officials, so if you don't really know, then voting no is never a bad idea.

The most patriotic thing you can do in this country is cast your vote. It's an affirmation of all the people who voted to shape this nation the way it has become, and a way of confirming that it will continue. People seem to always be saying "this will be the most influential election of our time." I don't buy that. I vote because it's my duty as a citizen of this country to participate. It is my way of telling society what I believe, and that I'm willing to be a part of the discourse.

If you plan on voting, now is a good time to examine your choices, and make sure that you're representing the ideas that you think we need for our country. Make sure you're informed.

If you don't plan on voting, I would ask you to change your mind. Learn about what is happening in today's society and make an informed decision about what principles and ideas you think should shape our government for the next few years.

If everyone thought their vote wouldn't count, democracy would break down. Learn and vote.
