I feel compelled to post because I've seen so many of my friends weigh in on the subject. Also, I do feel that it's very important.
Please vote no on prop 8. If for no other reason, because it just isn't right to legislate discrimination into the California Constitution, and make no mistake, that's what we would do by passing prop 8. When they were passing these types of amendments in other states, I was depressed that in this day and age that people wouldn't vote against discrimination.
Onto the dumbest sign I ever saw. I was at the San Luis Obispo farmer's market this past thursday, and there were numerous signs from the proponents and opponents. This sign by the proponents said "Vote Yes on Prop 8 for Freedom of Speech". My mind reeled as it screamed "WTF!"
I tried thinking of a way to have this sign make sense. The best I could do was to put together something whose premises were so paranoid and whose logic was so disjointed that the phrase "cognitive dissonance" just doesn't begin to describe it.
Also: yes I'm at Cal Poly SLO, I'm going to be trying to do research into using algae as a substrate for bio-diesel production.
People should almost always vote against taking away rights.
