Aww, Livejournal got all festive on me. What neat seasonal greetings.
The linux thing is going ok. Here is some news on that:
It finds that updated are available about as often as NPR talks about Iraq. Very often.
Our Wacom Graphire 4 tablet is compatible, and the drivers are installed in Fedora Core 6 by default.
Shockwave and Flash on the internet run perfectly after one of the more recent updates.
Linux distributions usually come packaged with at least one of two Graphical User Interfaces (GUI): GNOME, or KDE. Fedora Core 6 lets you install both. I've tried both, but must say I've grown accustomed to gnome. KDE is infinitely customizeable and has a more complex menu structure, but so long as I can edit the menus in GNOME, I'll be all right.
I downloaded some skins for GNOME. They're pretty tight. You have a lot of options as to what your "theme" looks like, since it's Open Source. Anyone can make them, unlike the situation with Windows.
I have Fedora setup so that it mounts my windows NTFS partitions at start up, so I have access to everything from Fedora.
VLC Media Player takes care of my video viewing needs. I installed Real Player for internet applications. I'm still looking for an organized mp3 player. I have something that strongly resembles winamp, called XMMS, which works great, but I want a music library.
I've installed WINE, an application that allows me to run certain Windows Programs, but Wine seems to have problems working correctly for now.
I'm going to setup a user account optimized for graphics applications, for my sister.
