How do I wipe my computer I want to sell/donate so that someone can't get my information off it if I can't reformat the dumb thing?
My mom bought the computer with Windows 7 I now use for a computer class, but I still have an old desktop with Windows XP. I love the Windows 7 computer, and want to get rid of the XP computer but have a bunch of stuff on it that I want to get rid of before I sell/donate it. I tried most of yesterday to re-format the damn thing but nothing worked since it wouldn't take keyboard commands before XP totally booted. I also tried to use Darik's Boot And Nuke (www.dban.org). It worked wonders on my laptop that was crippled by a virus, but again it wouldn't work on the desktop XP because it won't take keyboard commands before XP totally boots.
If I get the job in St. Louis I don't want to lug the XP desktop with me all that way but I don't want to donate/sell it before I get my info off it.
Me and my mom went over a possible budget if I get the job in St.Louis. God that was depressing since I probably won't have enough just to pay necessary bills. I have allergies to cigarette smoke and a cat so I'm limited in getting a room mate.
