okay, all i have to say is that anitsirk is an awesome mom because she wrote THIS in her livejournal today (talking about her and her daughter):
"so, in honor of columbus day, we went to the library to get some books about people who are cool rather than pillaging rapists.
despite a poor selection, we got books about:
rosa parks
sojourner truth
nellie bly
nelson mandela
mary anning
cesar chavez
frederick douglas (and)
florence nightingale"
wow. that is great.
on another note, maureen is wonderful... and decadent... and spiritual... and fun... and openminded... and beautiful... and she takes the time to see through all of the ugly bullshit that i sometimes hold up in front of me: the fear, the anger, the depression... and see right into me and come out and tell me i'm beautiful. today: "you are so beautiful when you're silly and giggly."
on another note, never underestimate the power of a really random (and i mean, random) group of women getting together and having some really awesome talks about religion, god, goddess, women feminism, patriarchy....
on still another note, i was awed of a friend's strength today-- you did the right thing and by doing so... made it easier for other women to do so. i am so proud of you.
and on one last note, still not done with steinem, still missing nicole a lot, still hoping that tony will learn to understand me (as complicated as i am), still wishing i could see my parents and little brother more, still wondering what i should be "when i grow up..."
