She almost hadn't noticed the darkness. Well, it was less that she hadn't noticed and more that she was incapable of processing the change. But the warmth, she did notice. It had been so cold, wherever she'd been. But neither the warmth nor the feeling of being embraced brought her back quite enough to understand what the serene voice was telling her.
And then she'd woken up. One moment, the world had been fuzzy, and the next it was crystal clear. And Lightning awoke with a gasp, her heart racing in a way she'd never quite known before now. She'd-... She'd been a Cie'th...
It had taken returning to human form for Lightning to comprehend that she'd been a Cie'th to begin with, and the shock of it all had her reeling. It was like she could still feel it, the coldness and sharp ache in every part of a body that was no longer hers to control. But she'd gotten it back somehow. How?
Almost in conjunction with the initial gasp, she'd all but leapt to her feet, but near instantly staggered and dropped back to a knee with one hand on the ground to steady her. Something clattered across the stone underfoot as she dropped, but it was forgotten in an instant, and her hand raised to press against the brand just above her chest.
Lightning didn't know where she was or how she'd gotten there. She didn't know how she'd turned Cie'th or how she'd turned back. But step one was going to have to be to steady her breathing and slow down her heart... a task in itself, right now.
