River, put the gun down. It isn't for you.
"...I like the wind." Despite the pulled face and contrary tone, she shifted one foot down onto more solid ground, away from the edge of the column. Almost accusatory, she added with a slightly hollow tone, "You should know that."

That is, until she arrived here.
For the briefest of moments, it was like she was back home. Back where she belonged, so to speak. Because the Northern Crater was certainly further than she intended to end up and it would be a long walk back to Edge. But then realization and revelation settled in. It was the same but different; familiar yet completely new, which all culminated into one massive indication that this was not the world that she knew. Far from it. "Nope, not here either..."

The world (or at least, this portion of it, at any rate) was feeling significantly less big and terrifying now. There was sneaking to be done around the monotone creatures (the idea had planted itself in her head long before now and refused to let go stubbornly), but she'd seen little evidence of them in this sector. And really, River mused, if things that looked like fairy tale monsters were going to keep proving themselves to be nothing more than mild opposition to her free movement, what was the point of keeping herself hidden until things became not safe again?

The words that bubbled in her throat were not happy words. Sickness, loneliness, fear, strife, angels, sin, longing, fractures--
It's like a flash and suddenly River knows that there is something to this woman, that she will understand. It isn't the tremor that runs through her when They (and even just the momentary flicker of the thought spirals part of her mind into darkness and pairs and hands and blue hands and never look at the sun and two and two--) get too close; the knowledge that the stranger has isn't threatening. It simply exists ( ... )

The search doubled as a general scouting mission. Terra needed to know what had changed, what hadn't, and who else might have returned on Chaos' side. She met with little luck in the latter area, but knew better than to let her guard down.
By the time she had reached the Planet's Core, Terra wondered if she shouldn't turn around and head back. Perhaps the girl had done the same a long time ago. And had she even asked her name? Realizing that she hadn't, Terra felt foolish. She leaped from one small floating island to the next, attempting to reach the largest one and get a good view from there.

Upon touching down, Terra darted toward the girl and dropped down to her knees beside her prone form. Of course, she immediately looked her over for any wounds. Her gentle voice sunk in volume, though she hoped it was enough to rouse the girl. "Hey...can you hear me?"
