Cecil gave an apologetic smile, having not realised he'd startled the man. He must have been well and truly lost in his own thoughts not to notice Cecil's approach.

The smile faded as Edward spoke. He didn't remember Anna -- didn't remember anything of that incident except the sight of a desert palace in ruins -- but Rosa had told him what he didn't know already. He knew that Golbez, his own flesh and blood, was responsible for the death of Edward's beloved. This wasn't going to be an easy subject to discuss.

"Perhaps if you asked Cosmos, she could tell you what will become of Anna after the war." It would seem unusually cruel for the goddess to disturb the dead, and when they were no longer needed, return them not to their homes, but back to death. Yet at the same time, it would be wrong for the gods to interfere with life and death in their worlds, when the war was over... "I understand how you feel, and I know I would feel the same, if it were Rosa and I in your position. But there is much more at stake in this war than just a single life."

"I know, but..." Edward let out a soft sigh. "I'm not sure if I can handle losing her again, Cecil." It took him awhile to accept that Anna was dead, and now that she's been resurrected Edward found himself quickly falling for again. He knows that there's no way for them to be together again and has taken strides to distance himself from Anna, but the love he has for her is still there.

"I don't want others to suffer." He quickly said with much conviction. "I truly don't. This war should end, and end it will. Although, what...what shall I do?" The sorrow in his tone returned.

"I do not think I would want to live in a world without her, Cecil. I convinced myself before that I could, but now..."

"I'm sorry, Edward... I never thought how difficult this must be for you to do." He glanced away, to the green Lifestream circling the area, quietly. He was learning -- relearning -- what it was like to care about another person that much, to love and protect them. Even without his memories, he'd give anything for Rosa's safety and happiness. But he was loyal to Cosmos and her cause, too. If he had to choose between the two, which would it be? Cecil had asked himself that question before, when Rosa had been held hostage, and he had to choose between her and handing over the crystal.

He still couldn't come up with an answer.

"In some ways, I don't want this war to end, because it means never again seeing the friends I've made here. But then I remind myself: we all live on inside each other, through our memories." He looked back at Edward. "You've been granted this opportunity to be reunited with her, even if for a short time. You shouldn't squander the precious time you do have together."

Even though Cecil was without his memories, he's words were still true. Edward knew it was selfish of him to wish for this conflict to be eternal. He now felt shame for even suggesting such a thought, almost wishing he could take back his words. It made no sense to sacrifice the lives of the many for just one person. If they remained in this Void forever, none of the others will get the chance to see those they've left behind. Punishing others for his loss was not something Edward could do, especially not to his friends.

"I'll cherish these days then." Edward replied with a tiny smile. "Anna will always live on in my memories, and that alone is good enough for me." He hoped that little bit could be enough for him. After all, Edward has to overcome his agony someday in order to care for his broken kingdom. He cannot afford to spend an eternity with Anna here in this realm of the gods.

Edward needed to go home someday.

Cecil nodded, wishing silently there was more he could do. But there were some wounds only time could heal, even if time was not a force in their favour, in this place.

"I'm sure if you spoke with Anna, she will understand your decision. She wants to help Cosmos as much as the rest of us do. Even if she can't be returned to the realm of the living, would it not be a harder fate to be forever trapped in endless war, without rest?"
