[Video/ action in the Edge of Madness]

[The crystal is held in someone's hand when it starts to record. There's the impression of clawed gauntlet fingers around it. What can mainly be seen, however, is a huge man completely covered in some rather impressive armor. The Edge of Madness makes for a gloomy backdrop. He doesn't seem to be aware that the crystal is recording him.]

Cycle? Unending?

...Explain yourself.

[Sorry, give him a moment. He wasn't quite expecting to see you. Since you kind of died.]

Kain.

It seems all rules of the war have been broken.

[Kain remembers dying a couple times, but not the battle you would know of. He exploded instead. :|]

Who are you... and what do you mean by that?

I am Golbez. [A pause, then, since Kain doesn't seem to remember, either;] Cecil's brother.

I mean that I did not expect you to be here.

[Golbez... Edge had spoken of him. Something about what he's saying now bothers him, as well. That 'not supposed to be here' feeling he himself has had deep down.]

Why not?

Because I had thought this war between the gods ended, and because you were removed from it.

[Rather forcefully. And with every realization that he would not be returned to it.]

The war has never ended to my knowledge.

[Yet he knows theres a lot he's forgottten.]

...Removed how?

It was meant to, yet it was not a true ending, for we find ourselves summoned to it once more.

[He pauses. Should he really tell this? Though Kain is the kind of person who would want to know.] Through defeat at the hands of the manikins.

How did we attempt to bring that true end?

[And how to make that happen again, because Kain will do everything he can. As for the other information... Yes. Kain needs to know. The past is especially important here.]

...I have memories of falling here twice. I was revived to life both times. What makes that defeat you speak of so different?

Through the power of crystals granted to you by the Goddess Cosmos. The purpose of the crystal has changed.

[Kain remembers dying other times? Interesting.] Defeat at the hands of the manikins is total. It is not so easily reversed, as is death at the hands of other warriors.

Then... with the purpose changed, they can do nothing for us this time, can they?

[Kain considers this for a while. Both times it happened, it was at the hands of another warrior, not a manikin. Though the exploding wasn't technically even at someone else's hands, it had just happened with the powers he'd had.]

The manikins. I see. None of us were aware of that danger. Nor was I aware... that I'm supposed to be permanently dead...

They are useless in that purpose.

You are supposed to be dead, as this cycle is meant to be ended. Both have been proven wrong.

Then we must find some other means of ending it. No matter what it might take. [Yes. Same attitude as before, though he doesn't remember. He gets a vague sense of this being... familiar, somehow.] If my death relates somehow to the cycle ending...

...What could it mean, that the impossible is now happening?

It may mean that the laws binding the cycles have begun to deteriorate. It may mean that new rules have been created. Or, it may mean nothing at all.

There may be opportunity in this, but it will be some time before we are able to find it.

If there is a way, we must find it.

...Is there anything else you can tell me of the previous cycles? [Though he's sure dying would be the worst of it.]

As I would expect from you.

That alliances changed between the cycles. Warriors of Cosmos have come to fight for Chaos, and the reverse. Furthermore, it was Cosmos herself who previously assisted in the efforts to end the cycle for good. There are other warriors who participated in those cycles, though it seems that some of them have been removed from it.
