1. The f$%^ing deer paper came back from reviews, and it needs yet another round of edits. I hate that f$%^ing thing!
2. I got rejected for a grant I applied for for my research (the dissapointment of this is becoming a little less severe each time, but I worry about money, and this doesn't help)
3. Geico is doing away with over-time pay. So now, not only will we be bringing in less money each pay period, but they are keeping the same hours. So now, every other week Sean will have off Friday/Sunday instead of Saturday/Sunday. Isn't the whole idea of a weekend to get 2 days in a row to chill out? He is applying for new jobs--- I'll keep you posted.
4. The rats at my field site ate all of my materials for collecting genetic samples (they are building a nest in the bed I will sleep in when I return and my friend is afraid to break it up--- that will be cute by the time I get there). So the base of their nests is bitty pieces of the boxes that were holding my supplies. Now EVERYTHING that they didn't' eat is mildewed from the humidity. Little jerks! So I am trying to arrange for supplies to be shipped from site from 1000s of miles away and it is NOT going well.
5. I thought I had a part-time job buying groceries for rich people. But, they decided not to hire me because I could only work 2 days a week and they want someone who could work 4. I gotta be honest, finding a part time job is proving nearly impossible. I am 4 months into the search and so far I have a few dead-end leads and nothing more. The real problem is that I am only available Tues/Thurs mornings, and there is little flexibility in that becuase of my other jobs/research.
But, there was good news:
The conference went really well, and I won 2 prizes (that include cash and books!). So at least I have some money to pay for my pilot project. And I feel better, that even though they have no faith at the beginning grant-phase that my work will be good, in the end, my work is good enough to win prizes. So hah, world, hah!
Otherwise things are good--- I am happy in all matters personal, weather, and location related. It is really just an annoying research/job week.
