Real Name: Matthew Williams
Superhero/villain name: Nanook

History: Born every bit the average kid to an average family in Ottawa Canada. Though he lived in a world of superheroes, most of his upbringing had been fairly uneventful. Maybe fate just has a good sense of humor because all of that changed during his senior year of high school.

During a family trip further up north, a freak snowstorm struck and separated Matt from his parents. Half frozen and on the brink of death, Matt stumbled onto a collapsed cavern, following after a lone polar bear cub. Why he did so, he didn't know. Despite the obvious dangers of chasing a bear in a snowstorm, something was compelling him. The further he chased, the more he felt he was not in any danger. Then again, much longer out in the storm he was a goner anyways so maybe he felt it unimportant at the time.

He was lead to a half-collapsed cavern with a much larger bear trapped under the rocks of the fallen entrance. Again, he felt no danger and immediately began trying to pry the rocks away until he was no longer able to lift his hands.

Matt picked the right polar bear spend his last moments trying to help. In truth, the bear was the spirit of an ancient Inuit god. Seeing such good will from someone already in critical health impressed the old god and he offered Matt a choice in his last moments. He would save him, if he allowed his spirit to pass into his body. Matt accepted.

His family found him laying in the snow, unconscious but far from suffering any form of hypothermia. In fact it seemed the cold hadn't bothered him at all. He was soon rushed to the hospital where he was able to rest up from the incident. Health wise he checked out fine, he was in top shape despite nearly dying moments before he was found. Realizing the god had kept his promise to save him, Matt couldn't help but feel that his so-far average life was pretty much done.

Soon Matt was able to tap into the abilities he gained from housing the spirit. He found that he could shift into various animal forms as long as they were linked to Canada. He had to be careful though, because he also gained their instincts as well. Depending on the type of animal, he could easily loose control of himself (he learned this the hard way in an incident he will not speak of). He spent a good year or so trying to get a handle on it and did well keeping it from his parents. When it was time to finally graduate he found a meta-human scholarship program to the college in Fantasiopolis. (He told his folks he got it by writing an essay.) So now Matt lives the college student life in between managing awkward powers. He's not quite a hero yet, but with this city, we will see.

Secret Identity: College Freshman at FU.

Powers: Possesses mystic shape-shifting abilities granted to him by the Inuit god that saved his life. Matt is able to assume the form of any native Canadian animal. He is also immune to the cold.

Guilds/Factions: None yet, but perhaps could lean to the Good Force.

Other Notes: Because of the nature of his powers, Matt is heavily tied to his homeland. He's significantly stronger when on Canadian soil. He can manage in Fantasiolopis well enough as long as he's able to take a trip home ever once in a while to 'recharge'. Going over seas however, would weaken him a lot and might even cause him harm should he be away for too long.

Also since Matt shares his body with the spirit of an ancient God he will occasionally hear voices. Don't mind him if he starts talking to himself, he's not completely crazy.
