Mixed feelings on this one. I agree that it gets old when people go on and on about the stans. But at the same time, it's been pointed out before, that this seems to be one of the safe havens for the complainers. If they were able to openly complain or at the very least share their criticism of Belle, maybe it wouldn't be so big a deal? IDK. Just trying to look at it from both sides. Personally, I've gotten hate comments on YouTube for making an unbiased, rational critical comment of Belle so that is pretty ridiculous ( ... )

I'm not saying Belle should be above criticism, or that her actions shouldn't be analysed. I'm just sick and tired of people going on and on about her fans and demonizing the entire B&B fandom when I've seen far, FAR more complaining about the fans than I've EVER seen complaining from actual stans. And everyone says exactly the same thing over and over.

THIS.

Its not so much that I want to complain about Belle or anything. I think she's awesome, but I think people are scared to dare whisper they might not love her as much as the others, never mind come out with that they really don't like her, for fear of of a clusterfuck of shitstorms.

I do see what you're saying? I just think for me, I've just never seen the harassment reach such crazy levels that people say it does. Looking at this comm alone, you'd think the Belle stans actively hunt down and lynch anyone who so much as implies she's not a goddess. I think one previous secret actually said "she's not GOD" And it's this overexaggeration of what I've seen, anyway, that's just really beginning to make me feel really self-conscious and afraid to say a SINGLE positive thing about B&B.

I hear this side of it too. I felt a little bit weird saying I liked BatB for fear people would think I was one of those fans. But then I realised I'm me and since when did I give a fuck XD

Exactly! It's those fans that have made it miserable even for their fellow fans and that's a horrible shame. I fully admit that I often assume that when someone says they love Belle/BatB it's because of the usual, Stan reasons and it's only because I've become jaded by the crazy fans. Then again, I felt that way for awhile about Ariel and that people would just harass me for liking her. But like you said, who cares? Haters gonna hate. If people like Belle more, what's it to me? If people hate Ariel? None of my business.

But if you like Belle then you have no reason to have seen the same problems those who openly dislike her have. Are you telling me that my description above about YouTube or the comment about the West Wing is an exaggeration? Because I assure you it's not. Heck, I've been in landcomms also where the Belle fans/stans took a sort of offish stance against anyone who didn't praise Belle or anyone who liked Ariel (the stans did the Ariel thing, not the fans). If you're only judging based on what you've seen in this comm, then again, it has to do with the fact that this has been a safehave for anon and sometimes not-anon people who are sick of what they have experienced. The reason it comes across as the same thing over and over is probably because there are multiple users who have experienced the same exact thing. I doubt it's the same user over and over saying this on purpose. Further more, some of the complaints come from within the Belle fan community! There are some who feel like they can't love Belle as much as others because the ( ... )

I don't think the problem is so much that it's a deadly fear of being ignored or counted as a stan for liking Belle--I think it's the annoyance that where ever you go if you say something that's even slightly gushy over Belle (and let's face it was all like to gush about things we like from time to time), that there will be almost a guarantee that there will be the bitter anti-Belle brigade all over your comment and cluttering up your inbox. It's the flip side, like how one ill comment about Ariel will bring all the snark against you you didn't want.

I feel like this conversation is at a moot point because I don't think you are grasping the concept of what I'm trying to explain, or else, you are denying the problem. I agree that we all gush and should be allowed to gush. I never even insinuated that. Heck, I clearly said if you have something positive to say, say it and don't worry about the haters all over your comment. In your own secret, you were implying that those who dislike Belle because Belle stans are all over their even slightly negative comments should just suck it up and stop complaining. Um, so why shouldn't you suck it up if anti-Belle (who again, are ANTI-BELLE STANS, not always ANTI-BELLE) are all over your comment? You are asking for something you yourself are not willing to give. As for making ill comments about Ariel, people hate on her all day long. Where have you been? As an Ariel fan, when gushing, I have repeatedly received comments (from real life friends and not just virtual comments) like "Ew!" "She's a spoiled brat." "Belle's hair is better than Ariel's ( ... )

Sigh. The problems with being anonymous. My gut instinct told me it wasn't you because suddenly there was the comment about Ariel and I was just all kinds of confused. My main points to that person still stand -of course- but sorry for the awkwardness ^^;; I was like, dang, we're having a legitimate conversation and this happens? Lol, my bad.

Ahaha it's cool, I should be labelling them better! Comment below IS me. And I DO understand what you're saying, honestly - I'm enjoying the discussion even if we don't agree 100% on the issue.

That sucks that you had a bad experience on YouTube, that is definitely not fair or nice. It's entirely possible that I am exaggerating, but I do feel like the anti-Belle stan rhetoric gets a little exaggerated too. Things that make it sound like Belle stans are worse than the devil!1! and associating all crazy stanish behaviour to all fans of B&B. I've even seen secrets and comments that basically say "if you relate to her, I just assume you're a moron." Which ALSO isn't fair and an extreme reaction! I've seen people APOLOGIZE for liking Belle because they feel so guilty! I am certainly not defending the crazy stans who do things like leave you rude comments on YouTube, but the anti-Belle rhetoric I feel gets a little dramatic sometimes. I'm not saying don't call them out when they do shit, I just wish people wouldn't act like they're this satanic cult who makes EVERYONE miserable and worships Belle as their supreme overlord ( ... )

I'll be honest. I do think you are exaggerating the anti-Belle stan rhetoric. Maybe I can't speak for anyone else, but I personally can't stand Belle stans. I can't stand stans of any fandom. But I would certainly never equate them to some satanic cult. What the heck? I simply look at the over the top ones as petty teenage girls who are either still petty teenage girls (literally teenage girls) or who are women who never grew out of that stage. I think they are people who don't have a healthy grip on what is fantasy and what is reality. I think they might be people who want to feel accepted and so they sheep. I assume A LOT of things, usually all at once when assessing the situation, but never that they are occultic. Heck, I'm part of The Lord of the Rings fandom which IS occultic for some people (not me) so I think I know the difference. Furthermore, some of my closest friends LOVE Belle. And sometimes they make really mean comments about other princesses, but I put up with them and I just let them be who they are, prejudices and all ( ... )

I'm not saying everyone reacts the same way? I'm not directing any of this towards you personally. It's good that you have a healthy view of stans. But I have experienced some pretty zany anti-Belle!stan people as well and that's all I'm saying.

Anyway, I'm sorry if I made you upset? I'm not saying that people shouldn't be able to complain about Belle stans. I just want to vent my frustrations at how SOME people choose to frame their arguments - again, not everyone.
