World AIDS Day a.k.a Not Another Trillanes Post

Dec 01, 2007 13:16

Another day started by arriving home at 5am. I have the horrible feeling that if I keep this up, my early twenties will only be remembered as a long drunken haze. Damn that Macho Mug. I'm just not made for all this, all the time.

Anyway, on to more responsible things. Should your vice not be drink, but sexual experimentation, no one actually gives a shit. But do know that...

· Since 1984, there have already been 2,965 confirmed cases of HIV in the Philippines, of which 776 have become full-blown AIDS cases (Note: Many experts says that this data is far from the real picture as they approximate about 12,000 cases already in the country, most of these are undocumented)

o 88% of these cases were transmitted through sexual contact

o 66% of these cases are males

o 58% of these cases belong to the 25-39 year old group

Just last September 2007:

o There were 25 newly diagnosed HIV positive cases, 3 of which are already AIDS

o Most of the cases acquired it through sexual transmission

o 6 of the cases are OFWs

Today is World AIDS Day people. Be aware. On top of poverty, corruption, and dealing with the likes of annoying servicemen with a thing for Makati hotels (ayaw niya kasi sa SOGO), the Philippines doesn't need an AIDS epidemic. We all know this, and hopefully we act accordingly.
