Study times...not so fun

Apr 01, 2010 14:39

Victoria was sitting in the quad with her books on the table, all spread out with a few highlighters and pens about. While the day was wonderful, with blue skies with a few white puffy clouds, she had to study. Her first test of the semester was coming! She wanted to do well even though she was having a hard time with the subject. French...why ( Read more... )

Being at the same university as his family had some great benefits, namely that he got to be with his family again. The downside was that it became difficult to discern where to play platypus, and where it was still all right to keep his hat on. He couldn't pretend absolute brainlessness with the teachers, which meant at least some of the classmates had to know. Keeping his hat on, Perry wandered over to the girl wondering if he could be of some service. Or if she'd seen anything suspicious (besides a walking non-talking platypus) around.

Victoria stared down at her paper for a moment before her eyes went back up to her textbook. The examples of how to conjugate verbs seemed easy enough, but didn't really help when it came to doing a different word. Examples are easy to understand until they throw you curve balls.. She thought, scooting her pencil away from her unfinished French sentence to doodle in the margins, at least she was going to until she felt someone was near her.

She turned her head to the side and blinked. Was....that a platypus? With a hat? Aw, he's cute! ...Or she...but....student or...?

"Hey...are you here to study? There's plenty of room," she gestured to the empty seats at her table. She wouldn't mind the company.

Perry nodded and gratefully hopped up onto a chair next to her, opening up some of his own textbooks to review his own classwork. He glanced questioningly at her work, as if to ask what she was having trouble with. He couldn't talk, but he was a darn good listener.

Victoria moved her textbook a little to make room for the new...person at her table. She wasn't all that bothered in seeing a platypus wearing a hat--after all she had an alien that keep her sinuses free--but she was still trying to figure out if it was a boy or a girl. The hat looks...Indiana Jones-ish..so male I guess. Her blue eyes went back down to her own paper for a moment before she let out a sigh.

She looked over at the platypus as he glanced at her. She offered him a weak smile. "French homework. I know how to say French food like beignet...but trying to conjugate verbs? Not as much." she told him, glancing back at her textbook to glare at it a little.

"And the examples aren't helping that much."

Smiling weakly, Perry snuck a peek at her schoolwork, instantly wanting to help. He didn't know much of anything about French, but from what he could tell if she followed the second example for that set of verbs, it should help better. A sneaky little trick, but languages could be confusing. All the more reason Perry couldn't speak them. That and he didn't have the proper vocal cords or tongue to even attempt to form the right words. As long as he could understand what others were saying, he was content.

Victoria could see the platypus was sneaking a peak at her homework she nudged it over to him. For all she knew he could help her. Couldn't hurt.

"I'm Victoria by the way..." she said, after a moment of silence. She wondered if the platypus could talk, then again if it could...it would be speaking to her right now, wouldn't it?

Perry took out his spy badge with his name on the back and showed it to her, exposing the name "Perry the Platypus."

He grinned amicably, and demonstrated the word she seemed stuck on, pointing to the second example and soundlessly demonstrating the way to make the letters work.

Blue eyes blinked. Whoa, did that mammal just pull out a badge? Victoria leaned in to read the name.

"Perry the Platypus..." Okay, so he did have a name. And she was right on the gender.

"Well, nice to meet you." she said with a smile. She was making friends all the over the place wasn't she? First a guy with magic, though she wondered if she would see him on campus again, reuniting with her best friend Lilo and becoming friends with Isabella. Now a platypus!

..One that was helping her with her French homework. Victoria beamed at him.

"Thanks!" she looked over the example and applied it to her French problem and tada! It worked. She looked back over at the green mammal. "You're really cool, Perry the Platypus."

Yes, yes he did just pull out a badge. Where he hid it was questionable since he didn't seem to have clothes. But he also had a grappling gun in there too so who really knew where platypuses kept things. They were strange creatures.

He beamed happily, relieved to have been some help and saluted cheerfully, giving off a small victorious little chitter. Helping people was always its own best reward.
