The problem with textbooks and backpacks was that they almost never got along. Sure, you could have a nice looking, spacious backpack with enough room for all the textbooks, in theory, but when you try to put them in there, they find a way to somehow be less concerned about being useful and more concerned about being as unwieldy as a bunch of books ( Read more... )

Clumsy as it may have been, it earned a round of applause from a nearby rabbit.

"That style! That timing! You're a natural! You're--" he managed to gush before the three apples he had been juggling just prior to applauding fell back down and konked him on the head, one after the other, each hit being followed by a different Picasso-like pose. After the third, the rabbit went limp-noodle and collapsed.

He was about to give a halfhearted thanks to Roger, but the apples conking the rabbit on the head made him cheer up just a little and chuckle. "Let me guess, comedy major, right? You say I'm a natural, that's pure talent right there." He picked up the last of his books and flipped his skateboard into the air, catching it, before walking up to Roger with a gloved hand extended to help him up and/or give a handshake.

"Max Goof, nice to meet you."

Sitting up and shaking himself out of it, Roger stuck out his hand to take Max's and shook vigorously. There actually was not even a hand buzzer involved. This time. "Roger Rabbit, and you guessed right! Wow, it's a real honor to hear that from you. I didn't see you in any of my classes, though. What are you in?"

The enthusiastic handshake was something Max was sort of used to, being raised by his dad and meeting a lot of his dad's friends, so he went along with it and withdrew his hand at a reasonable time. "Coming from me? Oh, I guess you figured it out... yeah. I'm majoring in music right now, but I'm mostly here because dad said I needed a balanced and higher education."

He shrugged a shoulder and smiled, "That and I really like music."

"Well, it's not exactly, you know..." Roger twists his face up hunting for the right words. "There's a strong family resemblance! Come on, you should be happy!" He tumbled aside to retrieve his apples as he talked. "Music, huh? That's a long way from following in anyone's footsteps. What kinda music?" He tossed the apples up to balance on his ears and struck an Elvis pose. "I like it too, but it's not exactly my strong suit. Maybe you could tell." He gave a little high-pitched chuckle. That, along with the slight lisp and occasional stuttering, pretty much stamped and sealed him as possibly the worst candidate for a singer ever.

"Oh, trust me, I know about the resemblance. All us Goofs look alike, even great-aunt Goofilda." He rubbed the back of his neck and watched Roger with a tiny smile - at least comedy majors were fun to watch - and shrugged, "All sorts. I like rock, though, and R&B a lot. Classic and current. I don't sing, either. I play the piano - er - keyboard." He shrugged and set his books down. He decided that hey, there were two classes of Music Theory I today, he'd just catch the later one.

"You know, I bet dad just loves you, you must be his star pupil. Considering I don't think you've stood still for even a split second. What are you learning in your classes?"
