Ferb waited for a time when Phineas was out of the dorm to call Vanessa. He wanted to be focused only on her, he wanted to actually be able to think about what he was going to say. Usually when he was around Phineas, he didn't have to talk at all, but when he was on the phone, he was the only one speaking

Vanessa was in her dorm, music blaring through her headphones, so she just barely heard the familiar jingle of her ringtone. When she did hear it however, she tossed off the headphones and dove for her cell on her desk. Having already programed Ferb's number into her contact list already, his name popped up on the screen. She took a second to collect her thoughts and flipped the phone open.

"Hello?" she said as casually as possible.

He moved to his bed, laying down on his back and putting an arm behind his head. "Hello, Vanessa? It's Ferb Fletcher." He really hoped she wasn't busy or anything.

"Oh, hey," she said as she sat back down on her bad. "What's up?"

"Nothing, really. I just realized I'd been remiss in phoning." Well, not just that, he wanted to ask her out. "Do you want to go to dinner with me tonight?"

Dinner? Well that was certainly a step up from coffee, but that didn't really seem to bother her at all. She eyed her planner for a second, but knew she didn't have any plans already. "Sure, that sounds great. I'm free around six."

"Great. it's off campus. Don't dress up too much, but a bit more than jeans. I'll have to wear a jacket, if that helps." He'd already made reservations; he was glad he didn't have to cancel. He was also really glad that she'd accepted.

"Oh? Sounds interesting," she said, grinning just a bit. It's not like they'd be on campus for very long, but she was already dying to get out and see someplace new.

"Where should I meet you?"

"It's not too fancy, but it's better than the cafeteria." He'd already gotten wanderlust, but he knew they couldn't really go too far. "I'll come get you in about half an hour?" He was grinning, couldn't help it. "Or is that too soon?"

"No, that's fine," Vanessa agreed as she peeked at herself in the mirror. She looked passable, so after a few touch-ups she'd be dinner ready. "I'll see you then?"

"I'll see you then." He hung up and went to fix his hair, slicking it back and making himself look presentable as well. He wore a suit jacket and cufflinks, but the button-down shirt wasn't tucked in, and he wore jeans and clean sneakers as well.

When he arrived at the door to her dorm, he held a single pink rose as well. He'd bought it the day before.

After hanging up Vanessa changed into a black, knee length skirt, and a white button down blouse. She slipped a dark gray jacket on over that and slipped on a pair of simple black ballet flats. She slipped over to the mirror to brush her hair back and reapply her make up for a more evening look. She had just finished up when she heard the knock at the door.

She opened the door and was pleasantly surprised to see Ferb holding a rose out to her. She smiled at him. "For me?"

"Of course for you." He smiled back at her, feeling a little bit sheepish for the first time since he'd hatched the idea. He really hoped she didn't think it was too over the top.

"Thanks, it's really nice," she took the flower and breathed in the scent for a moment. In her on-and-off relationship with Johnny in high school Vanessa has certainly enjoyed her time with him, but he had never been terribly romantic. Even if this was just dinner, it was a nice change.

"I wish I had something decent to put it in though. Maybe we can find something while we're out?"

"We could do that." He offered her his arm, putting his other hand into his pocket. She looked lovely, but he figured she didn't need to know that. He figured she knew she was beautiful.

"Sounds like a plan then," she said as she grabbed her purse. Slipping that over one arm, and holding the rose in the same, she used her free arm to take the one offered by Ferb without hesitation.

"So, how were your classes so far?" He smiled at her, holding doors open for her as they walked. It was something he'd do for anyone, especially her, on any given day. He was very polite.
