003; action on the quad.

Jun 21, 2010 13:43

[There's a little card table of sorts standing out on the quad, set with a simple white cloth, an empty wooden chair facing it, and nothing atop it apart from a handwritten sign in bright, scribbled capitals that says: "TAROT READINGS AND VOODOO CHARMS."

Dr. Facilier sits expectantly behind it, shuffling a thick deck of cards.]

Well. What's this?

Just what it says. [Facilier gestures at the sign atop the table and gives Helga a sly grin. Well she's a pretty one.] Any interest in knowing your future or charmin' things your way?

[Skeptic? Yes, she is, but...]

What can it hurt?

A reading, I suppose.

What's your fee?

Hmm, typically I exact my price in one less than conventional way or another. Favors, influence, you know. But for you? On the house.

Nothing is ever free.

[But she smirks, leaning forward a bit.]

But I'm in.

Haha! Too right you are. Very sharp, I like that in a woman. [He reshuffles his deck a final time and spreads the cards in a fan, holding them out to her.] Just take three, if you will be so kind.

[Helga looks at the backs of the cards briefly and then selects three.]

[Facilier turns over the first card, immediately intrigued.] The Tower. You didn't happen to have anything along the lines of a sudden revelation or change of circumstances that affected everything you thought you knew, did you? [He wouldn't be surprised in the slightest, something had to make this woman seem so battle-torn. Apart from being an actual lieutenant, obviously.]

[A faint arch of the eyebrow, but she's trying not to look too interested.]

I went from being a lieutenant to being a teacher. I think it's a good guess that there was a major change of circumstances.

[Facilier smiles but doesn't press the matter, carrying on to the next card.] And more presently, the aversion to quick decisions. Seven of Cups. You're one to hang onto control through delicately laid plans, aren't you.

I'm military.

Of course I like things planned.

[But she is still listening. Just trying to dismiss what she's hearing.]

[Facilier smiles.] Now, now, don't close off on me. Next is the most interesting part! [And tapping the final card with his forefinger...] The Knight of Wands. Yet more decisions mark your future, but this time they're more instinctive than usual, interestingly. Rapidly evolving events will require you to be on your toes and act out of passion, but your own self-assurance will be your guide. [He laughed.] In other words, follow your heart. That will be interesting to witness, I'm sure.

I don't act on passion. I reason things through.

[Except punching Rourke at the dance. That, in hindsight, was a pretty stupid thing to do. If Rourke had fought back...]

I'm afraid your cards may be off there.

Well, time will tell, won't it? That was your future card. I wouldn't rule it out just yet. [He winks at her.]

[She might have rolled her eyes a bit, but... she does take another look at the cards, particularly the last one.]

Guess we'll see.

Indeed. Now! [And launching into salesman mode...] Anything to help or hinder that future? Something to ward off impulsiveness, perhaps?
