[ The initial malfunction of the communicator had found Dr. Doppler on his home outside of campus. There was, of course, the initial sick feeling of fear that washed over him. In spite of that, however, he did not hesitate to move. If the Mist was going to be active here, he needed to be at the Academy ( Read more... )

*Brooklyn had been all over the place with his job. Finding students outside in the Mist seemed to be the most common problem, but when he sits on the roof of Hoover Hall, he notices something riding into campus. Narrowing his eyes slightly, he tries to make out what he sees. Something was riding in, with a rider on its back. The rest he couldn't make out, due to the Mist.

He flicks his tail with a small growl and kicks off the roof, gliding down towards the figure. He'd have to check this out. Then again, it probably wasn't a good idea that he was a winged beast, gliding right at the rider, with glowing eyes.*

[ Visibility was a bit of an issue in the Mist. Same was true for Doppler, and so he wasn't at all sure what he was seeing or even if he was seeing anything at all. It may have just been a shadow, of course.

Or it could actually be something coming right towards him!

With a muttered 'good God!,' he pulled Delilah to halt, hand reaching to find the pistol as immediately as possible. ]

Stop! I'll shoot!

*At the threat of someone actually saying he'd shoot Brooklyn falters slightly and glides himself down to land a few yards away. This guy meant serious business.

The gargoyle's eyes glowed a little brighter through the Mist as he watched the other cautiously, bobbing his head in curiosity, trying to make out what kind of creature he was riding on. It was strange, he had never seen anything like it before. But that was besides the point. This person was armed. Sadly, he was oblivious that this person was part of the Academy.*

What do you want?

[ Ah. So it wasn't something of the Mist. Delbert was familiar, to a degree, to gargoyles. He'd met Goliath on the Berk mission and had upheld conversation with the associated Miss Maza.

He drew his hand from his jacket without withdrawing the pistol. ]

I work here. My housing is situated outside of the campus, but I surely wasn't going to stay there at a time like this.

*His eyes instantly return to normal as he stands up and he makes his way over to Doppler, standing a few feet away from him and his... horse.*

Heh, good point. Sorry about that, didn't mean to scare you or anything. Glad you came back to help out, though.

[ No comment to being frightened by the short encounter. It would only be admittance to the fact that, yes, this fellow had rather startled him. He was supposed to be acting brave and logical at a time like this, dammit.

No matter. ]

Of course. What else could I have done?

[ Like, duh.

He looks Brooklyn over, an inch from asking who he is, but... Introductions are a bit more polite and will likely get him as far. ]

I'm Dr. Delbert Doppler. I teach physical sciences, here.

Well some people might have stayed inside because of the Mist. *He shrugs a little, knowing how some people could be so fearful of the Mist* It's brave if you ask me, if you came from home to come here, all by yourself.

*Brooklyn rubs the back of his head before he smiles a little*

I'm Brooklyn, part of the security team. Nice to meet you Dr. Doppler. *If only it was in better conditions of course.*

Likewise, Brooklyn. It's good of you to be out watching the grounds, all things considered.

[ And while the current encounter seemed oddly mundane and he'd be complimented upon bravery, Dr. Doppler was still sitting with a growing sense of wariness. He felt... Perhaps as though something was watching them, and knew that it was perhaps more likely than not that something was.

Eerie business, really. He tugged Delilah's reins to turn her. He largely wanted to put the creature away and get inside, find his friends and acquaintances, assess the situation. Conversation was not politely exited so quickly, however, and there might yet be information here. ]

Any encounters to speak of thus far? Have the little beasts made their ways among us yet?

*He purses his beak into a thin line as he looks off to the side. He had heard some screams while he was out and about, but whenever he'd seek them out, he'd hear another one and so many others. He couldn't keep up.*

I think there have been a few encounters... Hearing screams here or there, but there's only so much our security team can do.

*The gargoyle rubs at his arms worriedly, feeling a shiver of anxiety run down his spine. He had that same feeling that he was being constantly watched. Brooklyn was an amateur when it came with dealing with the Mist, this having been his second encounter with it. He waves his hand though.*

It's probably best for you to keep moving. It's bad for us to be in the open like this.

I see.

[ Screams here and there was certainly a bit troubling, and it was hard to tell what they implied. The beings, even without appearing physically, brought fear forward. A scream could be anything from a mere psychological reaction to result of physical struggle. At least... That was the case so far as Doppler could tell.

He nodded an agreement at the suggestion, however, tangent of thought interrupted for the moment. ]

Yes. You're right. [ He gently pulls the reigns again; Delilah was obviously skittish. Just another reason to get indoors quickly. ] Should you have further need for assistance, I suspect I'm easily enough found. Do remember that.
