[Theres a noise, something organic and raw. The ground shakes a bit and you will be jolted out of your sleep. Get to a window and you'll see a flicker, the fence which has stood strong and proud against the black mist... the strangelings.... it's flickering.

It's not gonna hold up long.

Suddenly a sound )

This way, this way... [He's staying above ground, but keeping a-- panicked-- eye out for Chel just so he can give her a hug before she goes into the safe area.

He's sensing impending doom. But frankly he always senses that.]

[Chel's face is completely transparent, reflective of the immense worry she so often disregards. Catching sight of Tulio, she begins to race through the people, forcing her way into his arms. She buries her face into his chest, trying to avoid the crowds of students being rushed into the underground.

For once, she has nothing to say.]

[He's instantly relieved to see her and tosses his arms around her. He closes his eyes as he presses his cheek down against the top of her head. He really, really, doesn't want to let her go.]

Hey...

[Feeling her eyes swell with tears, she cannot bear to break away and look at him.

Her voice is muffled into his shirt.] Please don't stay up here.

I... er. Even if I traded with someone I'd be on the guys side. At least here there are some good looking ladies. [He weakly chuckled, an attempt to lighten the mood, but he really wasn't feeling it.]

Don't worry. I'm a coward. I'll run at the first sign of trouble. [That wasn't true at all. When times were desperate Tulio fought like the best of them, especially for his loved ones.]

[She wipes her face with her arm, finally gazing up at him.]

Just... just don't do anything to get yourself killed. [The bitterness in her voice does not come out as easily as she would have liked, and falls flat just like his prior attempt at humor.]

Who me? No way. I wouldn't die even if you killed me.

So go on. Go down into the shelter. Steal something pretty for me. [He swallows against the lump in his throat. He can barely managed to let her go-- but he needs to.]

[She stands up on her toes, pressing her lips against his as she traces her fingertips across his face. When they part, she doesn't look him in the eye, her hands slipping down to her chest.]

I'll try.

[She finally slips from his hold with the wave of students, turning immediately so he couldn't see her face. She tries to remind herself that he's escaped far worse, but that was usually due to her or Miguel's help. And he had neither.]

[He let her go, she was turning but-- He grabbed her arm and pulled her back to give her a much stronger kiss than before. When they part this time his shuddering, fearful, breath softly whispers 'I love you'.

Just in case this was the last time he saw her... he wanted her to remember that. Then he let her go. For real this time. Ignoring the urge to just sweep her up and run away with her. He stood there with his jaw set and his eyes closed.

Scared out of his mind.]

/Hey! It's.. that guy! Who looks like he's directing people in a manner that may dictate that he knows what's going on./

Where are we all going? Why're we being separated?

[Hey it's my son some guy!]

Uh. Okay I don't get the separation of the sexes thing, it doesn't make any sense to me. It would make more sense to have everybody comfortable but whatever, I'm not in charge.

[he huffs, and runs a hand through his hair]

Long story short, the fences are blinking out and it looks like they're going to fail at any second. So it's best to kiss your girl and get below.

... Oh. Well, that's-- you know. Exciting.

If possible death and torture are your thing, which I'm really not all that into. If you see Blondie I'd make a special note to not tell her that, by the way, since I don't think she's real into it either.

/he hesitates/ You guys don't ... seem to be going anywhere.

I'm... not really into it either. But uh. [nervous laugh]

I get to stay up here with the other idiots to try to fix the problem and [slash motion with his hand] or fight off whatever comes through.

Great gig, right? Yeaaaah. [I'mgonnaDIE]

Yeah, so this is the part where I'm finally glad to be twenty one and stuck in the eleventh grade duetoafreaktestingaccident. Never thought I'd see the day.

/he's still frowning at him/ That doesn't sound like a really-- safe plan, though.

We don't have much choice, do we? If we all squish down there whatever comes through would probably just bust in.

... You know I never did go to school, maybe I should've signed up for a grade. Damn. [too late now.]

Yeah, but-- and no offense intended my friend-- some of the teachers I've seen up here are way more likely to get beaten up than half the students down there. You met Professor Milo? Astrid?
