[The students were safely back in their beds, some sleeping quarters reassigned temporarily to make sure everyone had a roommate.
For now, it was a waiting game.
There had been some disagreement amongst the staff, but they'd finally come to a course of action that at least most of them seemed content with. The students had been told about the discovery-- two stocked barracks with twenty beds each-- and that while the doors were locked, the professors could unlock them when they became necessary.
What they hadn't told the students was that without a key from the Mouse or the like, unlocking them would be a long process. Even for someone with a knack for picking locks. But they'd worry about crossing that bridge when they came to it.
Lieutenant Helga Sinclair had fixed herself a pot of tea, and she sipped at the cup in her hand as she sat in the Joe West common room. She stared out at the fence and its soft glow.
As long as that held, they could refrain from panic. If it failed... Hopefully the bunkers were as secure as they'd felt. Even outside them, in that narrow hallway, she'd felt the ringing in her ears less, and it seemed like they were further fortified. Hardly enough for immunity, but maybe enough to lessen the suffering.
The only concern... One the staff would have to deal with soon... There was a bed for every student in those bunkers. But only two or three beds to spare on top of that.
Whatever happened, a lot of the staff would not have anywhere safer to go.]
