Off-topic? Ha! No such thing! :)

May 14, 2010 22:20

So this is sort of an overall off-topic post for all other random things that don't quite fit the purpose of the request post.

You know, questions you'd like answered, random other bits of fluff, discussions about how thus-and-such pairing rocks way hardcore ...

So ... *claps* Get to it! Post to your Disney-loving heart's content! ♥

Okay, so yes, we should stop clogging up the thread over here with HTTYD talk. I know it's not Disney, but Elsa & Hiccup friendship is also fast becoming one of my favourite things, pfft.

You'd have to get Olaf to not try to play with Røyk too much. :p He'll try to make friends with anything. But yeah, I can kinda see Røyk just being allowed to sleep on Anna's bed (or, generally, wherever he wants). To Kristoff's probable frustration.

("You don't let Sven in the room!"
"Sven is bigger than Røyk!")

But now I sort of want the AU where instead of finding a dragon, Hiccup finds... Elsa? And Elsa was thrown out of her tribe (which would have to be a separate tribe, I suppose, like two groups on distant ends if the same island) at a young age, and has grown up half feral. So she's not completely one of those feral children that you hear about, but there are elements of that about her. Maybe she isn't the only one, there are other children with magic out there that get sent to live as hermits/less than human. And they try to steal things from the village to live, which is what creates the fights. Only Hiccup traps Elsa in a net or something, idk, and is supposed to kill her but can't because she just looks so human to him. But she's broken an ankle or something and...

fuck, I might have to write this story now.

Hiccup (and/or other HTTYD characters) getting to interact with Disney characters is something I like too. But then again, any of my favorite characters from different properties is something I crave. XD

Elsa and Hiccup (and Toothless) just seemed like they would find some sort of common ground and relate to each other. Like, all of them have been demonized (for lack of a better term) for aspects of themselves. And Toothless probably picked up on Elsa's emotional stuff and was like, yes, I like her, I want to be her friend and make her smile.

Plus, characters of Norse descent interacting with each other, yes good.

Oh gosh, Olaf a snowman and a dragon, that'll be an issue. But then again, he's got a permanent flurry thing going on (well, at least until Elsa dies...), so he should be okay.

And, yes, that'll probably annoy Kristoff. Oh, the tiny dragon gets to be in the castle but the reindeer can't! What the heck, Anna! And Elsa's like, the last time Sven was in the castle, he pooped on the floor.

It'd be an interesting AU, that's for certain. I guess Berk or whatever island they're on has no knowledge of the wizarding world and there's no nearby Wizarding School to help magical children. But that's just me randomly sticking Harry Potter into things. (The Wizarding world would be quite irritated to know that there are dragons amongst muggles within the HTTYD-verse.)

Dragon breeding is something your fic mention and is something I'm so curious about. I mean, we get a brief glimpse of it with Gift of the Night Fury (THE EGGS EXPLODE!). Dragon reproduction probably is a topic at the Academy. (And Hiccup has to deal with like, 900 jokes about sex from the twins and Snotlout).

It's odd, actually, but I find Toothless a lot easier to write than, say, Randall from Monsters Inc/U. Because Toothless acts like a cat, moves like one as well, whereas Randall...actually moves more like a reptile, I think. Only I've never owned a snake or lizard, and the closest I get is talking to the ones at the pet shop. They blink back. But Toothless's body language is easy to read and to write, for me at least, whereas Randall is sort of human and sort of not so it's harder. Sorry, that's just been in my head because I've been thinking about Monsters again lately. *files away*

Elsa & Toothless is just the cutest goddamn thing. I mean, Elsa & Hiccup is nice because of the human-ness of it, the connection (in one of the TV shows, Hiccup literally talks about being afraid of things you don't know, so I suppose my fic really was in-character, pfft), but human-animal sort of gets me right here because there is something automatically so honest about it.

I can't decide whether I want magic-users to replace dragons, or just to be an extra threat. Because dragons aren't enough, obviously. Argh, I already have like two dozen WIPs on my computer, this is just going on the list now.

Dragon breeding *laughs* oh man. I've seen an exploding egg in Animal House (season one, episode three), and then you see the protectiveness of the dragons over their eggs in Gem of a Different Colour (s01e18), but I've only finished season one so far.

It occurs to me that there are actually several dragons in Disney. You've got Maleficent, Madame Mim and Narissa, who turn into them, but you've also got Mushu (probably related to a Terrible Terror), the Gwyhaints in The Black Cauldron, one from the Aladdin series, and possibly dragon-like creatures in Hercules? They just seem to be spectacularly numerous in HTTYD.

Plus, the new prompt about Maleficent being Toothless's mother? Which might be you, I suspect, but sssh. A+ material. And it explains why he's the only one poor bb.

Re: HTTYD Thread [Frozen Mention] ashleybenlove April 10 2014, 15:19:10 UTC
Yeah, I get ya. It's incredibly profound, because two creatures who can't actually speak the same language (human-language and animal-language) manage to have an incredible bond. Hiccup looked at this dragon and empathized with it. What a great character.

Elsa gets to be herself with Toothless. He doesn't care that she has ice powers. Except, hey I get to shoot at ice, that's fun!

Ooh, Disney does have a handful of dragons in Disney. Hmm, Mushu could be related to Terrible Terrors, somehow. Chinese variant perhaps? Or an ancestor to the Terror. He also talks too... so there's that. Gosh, if Mushu and Mulan met Toothless and Hiccup, oh my gosh. Fuck.

Yeah, Maleficent being Toothless's mum is certainly an idea of how this dragon who's called the unholy offspring of lightning and death itself came about. Aside from, you know, the normal ways. I like to think that Freyja and Thor are actually his parents. Thor being the god of lightning and Freyja being one of the gods of death in Norse Mythology. But that's probably because I love Marvel Thor so much and I like the idea of him coming across Toothless and marveling at Toothless, acting like he doesn't know him, but really, that's his son. I mean, Loki has a horse son so why not, lol.

It sort of makes it even more hilarious because of "When Lightning Strikes" (episode 12 of season 1) where Mildew (hisses loudly) thinks Thor's angry at Toothless. More like, Thor's angry at Mildew being a douche towards his son. And then Hiccup does reckless thing to protect Toothless.

Though, I hope he's not the only Night Fury. I hope they're elsewhere and he just isn't in their normal habitat or something, and not the last one ever. He doesn't seem particularly fussed about not having other Night Furies around, though. He's way too happy with Hiccup to care.

(Hahaha, I broke the comment length limit with this. That makes it longer than some of my fics.)

The episode where Hiccup found the baby Typhoomerang justmade me fall in love with him all over again because I am just like that with stray cats. Like... it was so spot-on it was frigging adorable.

It's taken me a while to read Toothless as male, actually. *laughs* Despite looking like my (male) cat. It is frustrating on that note, because reptiles have WZ genetics and one female can actually produce a breeding population by *herself* by parthenogenesis. And the idea of Hiccup freaking out because Toothless lays eggs is cracking me up now, oh god. Also: did he CHECK the sex of the dragons at any point? There's a joke about checking the sexes of yaks during the series, so I guess he did, but still. There's an AU in there that goes fabulously with the, "Great. My first girlfriend is a dragon." also from the Typhoomerang episode.

(Side note: how do they know what typhoons are? Or boomerangs? Bwuh?)

Okay, so I'm starting to put together some sort of idea for this. Basically, Berk is a slightly bigger island, with the Viking settlement at the north end and the Arendelle settlement at the south end. (Fuck timelines.) In between, there's this area that's generally considered uninhabitable even by the Vikings - mountainous, wild, with rumours of dragon nests and... wildlings. (I think I've taken that word from Song of Ice and Fire or Game of Thrones; can't find it anywhere else.) Wildlings are magic-users who look human, but dress in furs and leathers, or rags, don't speak whatever language the Vikings do (if they speak at all), and frequently attack the village. So Berk lives under the dual threats of wildlings and dragons, and doesn't much get on with Arendelle because they leave pretty much all of the dragon-fighting to Berk, and the natural lay of the island means that there's, I don't know, a canyon or something which means that the wildlings can't get through. So the Vikings resent the Arendelle lot because they think they have a softer life, and the Arendelle lot don't like the Vikings because they think the Vikings are using up too many fishing resources or have a nasty habit of tangling with other powers and leading Arendelle to get hit in the process.

In the midst of this, Hiccup is... well, Hiccup. He gets left out of hunting dragons *and* defending against wildlings. But he's been reading, and he's *sure* that this particular plant has anti-magical properties, and look, he's woven a net out of it and everything! And Stoick is just like... yeah, no, not happening. So Hiccup sneaks out to use the net, thinks he's caught a wildling, but something goes wrong (insert Hiccup being Hiccup here). So the next day he goes looking, and finds... a young woman, tangled in the anti-magic net, at the bottom of some sort of hole or crevasse with a broken ankle.

Yeah, that'd be Elsa. So you transfer the I-will-kill-you!-oh-hell-I-can't, and he cuts her loose and gives her the water that he's carrying, and he realises that she is speaking a different language, only haltingly. She's maybe only a little older than him, and looks really scared by this situation, trying to get him to leave but unable to use her powers.

He makes a sort of splint-brace-thing to set her ankle, and tries to actually communicate with her and teach her a bit of his language. They become friends, and she tells him that she is from Arendelle. Arendelle cast out people of magic to live as wildlings; Elsa herself was cast out when she was eight because of what happened with Anna.

(By the way, the more I watch that movie, the more that I think that the King is a dick. "What have you done?" is not an appropriate way to speak to your frightened daughter!)

And then further in comes the bit where Elsa asks for Hiccup's help, and leads him to... a Night Fury. To which Hiccup is like WTF is wrong with you those things are dangerous, and Elsa points to Toothless's tail basically as if to say well, you healed my foot, so heal his tail. And then Hiccup has Toothless on his side as well.

I'm still not 100% sure about whether I want it that way round with Elsa and Toothless, but I'm trying to do something a bit different from the film, and fix ankle -> fix tail sort of made sense in my head. But on the other hand, it would mean that Elsa and Toothless meet first, and I don't want to undermine the Hiccup & Toothless friendship. I just want a BroT3, damnit. And I'm running out of hands, but I feel like Elsa (no weapons, smells of magic) might spook Toothless less than Hiccup at first, but he ends up closer to Hiccup because Hiccup is willing to ride him, while Elsa is just like oh HELL no that is not happening.

...am I babbling enough yet?

Nah, it's totally cool. I just thrive on being able to talk about my favorite things with people.

Huh, so dragons might be able to produce asexually, cool. I always just sort of imagined that Hiccup would come across dragon mating and realize, oh yeah, Snoggletog is coming up, they're going to have babies. And also be super uncomfortable. Or take notes (Fishlegs would totally take notes.) I bet when dragon mating season comes around it is fucking loud around Berk and everyone's just like, "Hiccup." And he's like, "What? What do you want me to do about it? Tell them, hey can you please stop roaring so loud while you have dragon sex? Oh Hel naw. I'm going to go fly. Let's go Toothless."

Do reptiles go into heat or anything like that?

I've read a few really great fics where Hiccup finds out Toothless is a girl because Toothless has babies. Two of my favorites are: "Small Surprises" by thefrogg and "EGGS?!" by lalaietha.

I tend to read Toothless as male, but I love the idea of him being female, too. I just love him so much, so it doesn't really matter.

There's so much that Hiccup doesn't know about him, like his age or how long he's meant to live... something that I'm curious about, for one. They probably don't know how long dragons live, considering they spent 300 years killing them every chance they got. So, that's something that Hiccup's gonna end up figuring out, poor baby. As long as Hiccup and Toothless don't have to outlive each other, I'm good. They deserve to live a long life together.

"But again, how do you know they're all female? Does somebody go out into the park and pull up the dinosaurs' skirts?" -- Ian Malcolm, Jurassic Park

I really do wonder if Hiccup checked the sexes of the dragons, and how he managed to do that. That must have been very interesting. I assume cloacae are involved, given that dragons are reptiles. Hey, good luck with that project, Hiccup. Or maybe the males and females of each species differ slightly enough on their outer presentation that Hiccup can tell through sight and not by cloacae. I mean, Astrid knows that Stormfly is a female, and Fishlegs says that Meatlug having eggs and being a girl "explains a few things" (I really would like to know what those things are).

The image of Hiccup like, attempting to figure out with Toothless via cloaca and just apologizing profusely as he does so, is now in my head. And Toothless is just like, SIGH, just do what you gotta do, can we go flying afterwards.

Wash your hands, Hiccup.

Shh, they just do, lol. It's a fantasy story about Vikings Riding Dragons, I try to avoid worrying about the issues with historical inaccuracies and such like that, though, yeah, I notice it. I mean, Hiccup has a compass in the second film, apparently, and Europe didn't get them until around 1200, and the Vikings were a thing from around 700-1100 (Viking Age being from 793-1066, which is less than the 300 years that Hiccup talks about Berk being there). Though, Hiccup seems to be that inventive/ahead of his time.

Re your Elsa/Hiccup/Toothless BroT3. I like that idea a lot. It's very interesting. I had kinda almost figured that there might be some tensions between Berk and Arendelle because of cultural differences, just in general, both in fic and if those two cultures were to actually interact. I could see them finding Elsa the Snow Queen a threat, or expect that she wants to rule over them (and they don't like that). I sort of figure that if Vikings manage to stick around past the Norman Conquest and beyond, they become more marginalized, due to Christianization and things like that.

And, the Elsa meeting Toothless first/spooking him less, but Hiccup bonding more with Toothless seems just fine. It would be interesting to see how you play with this idea. AUs are always so fun. Like, wow, if we change this aspect of this thing, how might it be different. Fanfiction is so great. XD

I am so fascinated by Vikings because of this series. Thanks a lot HTTYD.

Oh my god, I just read both of those stories and pfff they are adorable. Toothless stealing every blanket in sight oh man. And it makes the, "Great. My first girlfriend is a dragon." from the episode with the baby Typhoomerang even funnier. And I love that Astrid is calm while Hiccup is flailing because, well, that's Hiccup. Good with dragons, not so much with the people.

Yeah, it's the ZW sex-determination system, and while wikipedia probably isn't the best resource in the world, it is at least readable. And that's still far from the only sex-determination system other than XY - we've got at least one prompt about the fact that clown fish spontaneously change sex, the temperature thing like affects some snakes and turtles, and loads of others. Or even one which only exists in dragons because they're goddamn dragons. I was probably remembering reading these examples about komodo dragons, though, because they're called dragons and also because they're awesome scary. (And bigger than me. But many things are.)

In the first film, Astrid describes the Red Death as being "like the Queen", but I don't think that's a justified statement about the reproduction of dragons so much as their social structure. They all fear the Red Death, which has got to be old to get that big. Even if things like the Screaming Death and the Typhoomerang "Torch" indicate that dragons can grow a lot faster than anything in the 'real world'. Maybe they try to avoid producing fire, and save up the energy from that instead.

(A more worrying image is that the dragons other than Toothless got their sex checked while they were at the dragon killing academy, which means that Gobber did it. You're welcome to those nightmares.)

The historical nerd in me is cringing somewhat at the idea of trying to mush together Vikings and 1840s Norwegians. Even if the book that the King gets out at the beginning *is* in runes. I would probably end up pushing Arendelle back to an early medieval sort of setting, rather than trying to pull Berk forwards. But again, that's nerdy preference.

Hiccup was definitely making his own spyglasses, reliably enough that Trader Joham was sick of the sight of them. :p I'm pretty sure he's a few centuries early on that one. And a basic compass can be made by hitting a needle with a rock a few times and then floating it in water. So I can buy Hiccup being able to make one.

Arrrrgh now I want to write this fic, when I should be working on my Frozen/Rise of the Guardians monster. I mean seriously, it's 40K and probably only half done. I've got four months to get it something like finished.

(Also, the Southern Isles may be the UK. The only two main areas of islands in Europe are the UK/Eire area or in the Mediterranean. And Hans has red hair. So more likely to be the UK.)

That's a perfect description of Hiccup. He's great with dragons, not so great with people. Reminds me of another character I like (Bones' Temperance Brennan who is great with bones but not great with people). I especially loved the fact that Astrid's like, "I'm not calling you honorary dad because it's funny" and it's just so perfectly true. And for some reason, it's just so lovely. Like their bond is so great that he pretty much is a dad to any offspring Toothless has.

That and Hiccup just being so in awe of the babies. Being super happy about dragon babies seems to an emotion Hiccup has in general.

And that line "Great. My first girlfriend is a dragon." (and Gobber's response of them having a commonality because of that) is funny, yeah. And interesting, because it ignores Astrid and whatever his relationship is with her. The folks that worked on the show didn't focus on the romantic elements because of the nature of the show (though, they apparently are a couple), which is cool, because it was awesome to see their friendship and how much of an awesome team they are in battle. Astrid is Hiccup's Lancer, basically.

Excellent comment about the Red Death. Yeah, Torch grew up fast, like whoa. Like, he went from small enough to be held easily by Hiccup in season 1, and then whenever Zippleback Down happens in relation to Torch's first episode (a few months/half year maybe?), grew to be big enough to handle carrying the twins, Hiccup, Toothless, and Barf and Belch with room to spare. Even Toothless looks like he's grown at least somewhat in some of the HTTYD2 footage.

Oh gosh, Gobber, that's uncomfortable. And all but Toothless of the teen's dragons are all survivors of said dragon killing academy. Meatlug, Stormfly, Hookfang, Barf and Belch. They're even visibly uncomfortable when they have to be there again in the first episode, and in the second episode, when Gobber shows off, they just fly off. I do love that they reclaim the dragon killing ring from a place of the death of dragons to a place of learning about dragons.

I feel like Gobber would be the one to check though. Or teach all of them how to check and it's an entire lesson at the Academy. And it's super awkward.

I seriously applaud you on your ability to write big fics. Kudos.

(The Southern Isles being near the UK or the UK makes sense.)

Daddy Hiccup is just d'aw. Seeing him playing with the baby dragons in Gift of the Night Fury (which I have FINALLY watched; I've now seen all of the episodes and they are adorable from every angle. And GotNF is where that flailing-dragon gif comes from) just made me wibble. And the baby Gronckles are too adorable, omg.

I've heard that Astrid/Hiccup will be an official couple by HTTYD2. When Hiccup looks like he does in your icon and askhgka is that really the same person. Though I suppose he still doesn't fit Viking appearance standards. (I'm waiting on the Hiccup/Jack fics using HTTYD2 Hiccup where Hiccup is the top and the assertive one and Jack is the bishie younger bottom, just because it will be so funny.) And I do ship Astrid/Hiccup, though not to the desperate OTP extent that I have fallen in love with Kida/Milo, and I definitely see the similarities.

...Will not prompt an Atlantis-HTTYD fusion with Milo in the role of Hiccup. Nopenopenope.

I feel like Gobber would start giving the lesson, and it would just descend into chaos and Hiccup would have to salvage it and take over instead. Fishlegs would be taking notes, but if he didn't check Meatlug then he would probably be too shy to consider checking the dragons himself. And Snotlout freaks out about the fact that they have to touch the dragons where to check oh god no can't we just wait and see which ones lay eggs? That would be easier!

(I would have laughed soooooo hard if Hookfang had actually turned out to be male. Although we do see Hookfang with baby monstrous nightmares, so you never know.)

The Vikings actually seem to at least know that night furies exist, and don't seem to react to them as being something new. I've read somewhere that Toothless is only supposed to be an adolescent as well, so it can't have been him that was menacing Stoick and Gobber and Alvin back in the day. There *must* be other night furies out there to have produced him. Or at least his mother.

...Oh god. Mama night fury. Now there's a thought.

Gift of the Night Fury is basically Hiccup looking like a baby while also squeeing over baby dragons and pining for Toothless. And it's so great.

To be fair, Fishlegs and Snotlout are the only ones to fit with Viking appearance standards (which is muscles, basically), whereas everyone else is skinny and tall (Snotlout's short, though, but he's still taller than me. Thor Bless the HTTYD website and Dreamworks for including height information.)

I get the feeling that by the time HTTYD2 occurs, they've been together years (probably ~5 years, given that it takes place 5 years later), and they're practically married but not really (or practically engaged but not really). I get the feeling that Stoick's putting the pressure on them to get married, though.

I'm probably roughly the desperate OTP extent with them (hell, desperate BrOTP extent with Hiccup and Toothless), and rank them roughly within the top 5 or 10, with me being able to see similarities between other OTPs (Calhoun and Felix, for one. Kim and Ron from Kim Possible for another.)

Sorry, Gobber, I guess you can't keep control over a group of teenagers whilst talking about dragon junk, lol. And then Hiccup proceeds to show everyone how exactly to check and everyone is curious and/or grossed out. Snotlout would totally be the most grossed out about checking and touching them WHERE.

Though, I get the feeling that if dragon mating actually happens on Berk, he's probably cheering Hookfang on. When he's supposed to be taking notes on the mating habits of Monstrous Nightmares for the Book of Dragons, because Hiccup asked him to.

Meanwhile, Fishlegs and Astrid have taken perfect notes on Gronckle and Deadly Nadder mating habits. And won't stop talking about it with Hiccup later on. And both are prepared to be parent figures to their dragon's offspring. And Snotlout's like, "Teacher's pets. Ugh."

And then it occurs to one of them that wow, we're super excited about dragon sex, we're a bunch of nerds.

I sort of figure Hookfang is male, but yeah, he's got babies nearby him so he could be male or female. Snotlout would be totally surprised that he has a female dragon. Maybe it explains why Hookfang doesn't listen to him because Snotlout keeps calling Hookfang a 'him'. Well, that and Snotlout's main way of communicating with him is yelling and Hookfang probably doesn't appreciate that. I do wonder that perhaps Hookfang doesn't like that he sits like middle of his neck so close to his head and holds onto his horns. I mean, he doesn't seem to give Hiccup trouble AT ALL when Hiccup rode him in GOTNF, and Hiccup seemed to sit at the end of his neck and held onto a spike. But then again, all dragons love Hiccup.

I'd love to know how long the Night Fury was showing up to help with the raids before Hiccup shot Toothless down. Was it since the beginning of the War on Dragons? Or maybe in the last ten to fifteen years? Or something in between?

It would be awesome if Hiccup got to meet Toothless's mama. And she loves him just as much as Toothless loves him. And Hiccup's just like, "It is an honor to meet you, Ma'am." and then gushes about Toothless. I mean, Toothless gets to meet Hiccup's mama in HTTYD2 and the trailers seem to indicate that he just freakin LOVES her. But then again, THAT'S HICCUP'S MOMMY I HAVE JUST MET HER AND I LOVE HER. (Apparently Toothless is Dug now, lol.)

I'm not usually a big OTP'er, but I definitely ship them pretty hard. They're a preference, at least.

Stop making me want to write this fic, omg. I don't have any excuse because it's not even Disney and I have so much freaking stuff I SHOULD be working on right now. But am not, because I fail at life and keep getting distracted by other shiny prompts.

Hookfang probably wonders why he got stuck with the stupid human, but he can't swap now because who else would look after the chump? Kinda like how cats think about their humans.

(ON THAT NOTE, I accidentally a second cat, another stray, and it is the cutest thing. askjghdh I just wanted to say that.)

Say, have you seen the Talking Kitty videos on Youtube? They're hilarious; this guy films his cat and dubs it so that it looks like the cat is talking. I have serious intentions of using HTTYD clips so we have Toothless going, "Oh, fuck off" instead.

Oopsie! XD

Hookfang totally would think Snotlout's a chump. Well, Snotlout is kind of a chump, lol. But he's a precious chump.

(Congrats on your new kitty cat!)

Oh my Thor, those videos are freaking glorious. Thank you for telling me about them, because wow, so freaking funny. And I can totally see Toothless saying stuff like "Fuck off, Hiccup, gods." I dunno if you've seen the first five minutes of HTTYD2 that Yahoo Movies has posted on Youtube (it's here if you're curious), but like, basically some of the Hiccup and Toothless interaction, like, totally that. Like, it totally feels like they're seconds away from calling each other assholes in an affectionate manner. Which is probably their friendship after five years of knowing each other.

This is why I love sequels because gosh, I get to see these characters again and see how in the intervening time they've grown and yay seeing characters again. I mean, in the roughly ten years between TS2 and TS3 for example, like everyone goes from being ostensibly coworkers to to being a family.

ARGH ARGH ARGGGGGHHHH OMG I want it. Waaaant it. That is the cutest thing, odd as it sounds I really love Toothless's characterisation there. Because human(oid) characterisation is something we're pretty used to doing, but non-human(oid) characters are harder. And Toothless is adorably consistent throughout.

Seeing Hiccup older and hotter is a little... unsettling. A little bit like what happened seeing Sulley go from a generation older than me to a few years younger. *blinks*

Now my housemate is also getting into the TV series. Watching Dagur the second time round is even more unsettling because woah, Dagur is completely Mr. McRapeyface. Like, someone must have looked at the character and gone, "Creepier... creepier... yep, there. THAT is how rapey we need him to be." What the hell.

I wish I had an accurate word to describe Toothless's laugh that. Like, it's some sort of rumble sound or whatever and it's almost offputting and scary but I just love that sound. Probably because that beautiful dragon is so darn happy. And Toothless's characterization is perfect. Same precious little baby as before, only 5 years older and maybe a mite bigger. And his friendship with Hiccup is even stronger.

I personally felt a bit offput by Sulley being younger mostly because of some of his behavior is so different than he is in MI. It's like, no, Sulley please don't act like a dbag you're supposed to be a sweet ball of fluff stop it.

Maybe the unsettling bit is the change in age and how you can react to him now? Instead of calling him a precious adorable baby (as he his as a teenager), you can call him a total hottie (at 20). Yeah, it is unsettling. Like, wait a minute, I knew you when you a kid.

I completely agree about Dagur. His face plus the way he acts around Hiccup, ESPECIALLY in The Night and The Fury.... total rapey vibes. Dagur, stop touching Hiccup. Stop it now. Stop calling him your brother. That's even weirder. Stop it.

And Dagur all but says that he killed his own father, too (the term he uses is "eliminated").

He's such a scary character, which is what you want from a villain. Like, he makes Eric Cartman of South Park look like a boy scout. And that is saying something.

It sounds a bit like a tiger's chuffing to me? But it is hard to not use made-up words. :p Like, I ended up saying murr and chirp and chirrup because those are the sort of words I've seen/used on various cat-related websites. And you're right, he's got to be a bit bigger because Hiccup hangs off his neck still and Hiccup is taller as well.

Sidenote: Itchy Armpit is still more imaginative than Eel Island. Toothless should name more places.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that Dagur is under the impression that Hiccup is going to kill Stoick to take over the Viking tribe. Again, the Night and the Fury episode.

He only gets rapier as the seasons go on, though, damn. Going from "little girly hands" to "pucker up [... to] kiss my boots", and then that cut off sentance that ended with the word "ramming" WHERE WERE YOU GOING WITH THAT DAGUR.

It's a little disconcerting, because he starts off as a sort of ~comedy villain~ and then turns out to be the big bad of the seasons, while Alvin and Mildew get redeemed. Unexpected.
