But Hans looked at Dashiel and asked the same God for the cause of his childless marriage, for to him a daughter was ultimately useless. In response, an ambitious Privy councilor told the king that no child could be bore from a man who took his brother’s wife. Buddy Pine’s superior was assigned the task of annulling the marriage, but he took too long, and was executed. Buddy was there to take on the role of the king’s new advisor. He was determined to not go down with his master, and to push forth the break from the Church and Rome. In the face of resistance, at the cries decrying him a heretic, he only laughed.
“Sure, it was difficult, but you are all worth it. I mean, after all…I am your biggest fan.”
Difficult as it was Buddy was ambitious and he had his allies. He was to become a central figure in the Tudor revolution in government, practically reorganizing the court and parliament systems. Knowing that it would definitely secure the king’s favour, Buddy helped annulled the marriage with Tara, stripped her title of Queen, ruthlessly separate mother from daughter, and sent her far away from court. Tara begged the king to reconsider, but Hans had spent too long trying to have their marriage annulled, too long trying to keep Tara in the dark. He was obsessed with the new beauty who had captured his eye.
Tara lived her last years with few servants and unhealthy castles, but she never complained about her treatment. The only trouble she caused was her resistance to her non-Queen title, Princess Dowager, but the ceremony at her funeral was ultimately that.
Buddy, one of her worse enemies, would sit back thoughtfully at the news of death. “If not for her sex, she could have defied all the heroes of history.”
I’m focusing on the 3D animated movies from Disney/Pixar, although yes I realize Epic is not one of their productions. I couldn’t figure out a “Queen of Earthy Queens” character for Catherine of Aragorn, instead Tara jumped into my mind. Buddy’s last quote was indeed spoken by Thomas Cromwell.
