I've been wanting to write a nice feminist revision version of Sleeping Beauty. This prompt makes my fangirl and feminist heart uber happy. This ficlet turned out a lot longer than I expected. It also took foreeeever to write. It's been a long time since I've written any fanfic. I wanted to make Aurora super strong and badass. I hope it's to your liking. :)

Aurora hummed cheerfully as they rode through the forest. She enjoyed riding at a brisk trot. She smiled as Phillip urged Samson to gallop ahead. He leaped over streams and fallen branches, showing off his horsemanship skills. Phillip returned to her side and for a few minutes, they rode steadily side by side.
“Let’s race to the clearing ahead,” said Phillip.
“Alright,” Aurora laughed. She was eager to find out how fast her new horse could run. Aurora felt a thrill run through her as she galloped through the forest. Phillip reached the clearing a split second before her. She acknowledged his win good naturedly and allowed him to help her off her horse. Phillip took the opportunity to steal a kiss. Aurora felt shivers run through her when his lips lingered longer than they should have and his hand stroked her cheek.
They were startled by voices shouting. Four rough looking men suddenly entered the clearing. They charged straight toward the pair.
“Bandits,” Phillip said. Aurora knew they wouldn’t just pass her and Phillip by. Despite their plain clothes, the horses clearly indicated their high rank. Phillip uttered a string of curses, which were internally echoed by Aurora. Phillip stepped in front of her. “Stay back, and get on the horse and run when you have the chance,” he ordered. He removed a small hunting knife from his belt-the only weapon he was currently armed with.
“Phillip I…” Aurora began.
“No,” Phillip cut her off. “I don’t want you to stay with me. I can’t stand the idea of you possibly getting hurt.” He motioned for her to move away. He prepared to head off the first attacker.
