When he and his brother had met the other dwarfs, Grumpy hadn't mentioned the fact that they were related. Dopey couldn't say anything for himself, and Grumpy didn't feel the need to tell anyone. They might get the wrong idea that stupid ran in the family, and he didn't want that.

Of course, this came with the assumption that he was soft hearted, letting someone like Dopey tag along with him without any obligation. But as much as that irritated him, it somehow was the lesser evil than having them know he was related to him, so he let it slide.

When they'd all moved into the little cabin, he wasn't burdened with taking care of his brother on his own anymore, and that suited him just fine. With so many other dwarfs around he didn't need to worry about him. Not that he worried.

Dopey didn't care much either way. He was happy just being himself, and he didn't seem to favor one dwarf over the other. Indeed, he didn't act much like Grumpy was his brother at all. That suited Grumpy fine, too. He didn't need Dopey tagging along and making the others think he was softer than they already did.

Occasionally though, Dopey would look over at him, and he could see the gears turning in his head. Then his face would break out in a grin and he'd come rushing over, and Grumpy would have to fight off Dopey's loving hugs and kisses. The others found it amusing when it happened. Secretly, Grumpy wasn't displeased when he had these moments of clarity. If no one was around, he might give Dopey a little pat on the head. He would never tell anyone, would barely admit it to himself, but he loved his dopey little brother and it was nice when Dopey remembered him.
