The three of them have talked and eaten and laughed in the fragrant garden for almost an hour, and soon the boy will have to leave and go back to whatever world it is he belongs to. Though he refuses to let it show, Baloo hates to see him go. Bagheera, on the other hand, knows there is no alternative. They’d argued through the night once. Bagheera had said that the real world isn’t like Twain’s stories about boyish high spirits and rafting down rivers. Baloo had surprised and offend him by shouting about ranks- the mai-baap, ‘father and mother’!- the castes! And they had fought, trading insults before brawling like animals, punching, kicking, wrestling and sweating on the floor, so furiously and desperately that Bagheera felt like what he used to be. He used to be lean and toned, sleekly leading everyone under his command. He could take a soldier down without making a sound, like a shadow, not like a man at all. But, old and tired, the familiar ache of needles and hammers in his legs had him crying out, and the fight had drained out of him, leaving him sprawled out on the floor of his beautiful house like a tired jungle cat in a zoo. Sometimes Bagheera doesn’t know what he is anymore. The night he fought with Baloo he lay stretched out against the man’s barrel chest, wondering why neither of them had ever married, entertaining thoughts that neither a military man or a teacher should ever think, in India or in England. The Little Man smiles as he hovers by the gate, finishing the last of his bread and butter with one hand as he picks leaves from the hedge with his other. When he waves, Bagheera looks to Baloo imploringly. “Same time tomorrow, Little Britches!” the man calls. “We’ll be right here, same as we always are!” Bagheera wonders, as he waves back to the boy, not if life is as simple as ranks, classes, castes and colours, but if it should be.

I can't comment on the historical aspects (me = the polar opposite of a history buff) but FFFFFFFFFF THE CHARACTER DYNAMICS IN THIS. ARE. SO. PERFECT. Bagheera has always been my favorite Jungle Book character and this pairing is one of my favorite Disney pairings ever, so this fic has made me go :DDDDDDDDD.
You've captured Bagheera and Baloo so well, and their relationship is amazing. And Mowgli as this nameless urchin is so perfect too. Love love love love.

Thankyou so much! <3 It does my heart good knowing that people like this, I wasn't even sure I should post it. He's my favourite too, so I'm glad I did him justice :D And there is not enough love for this pairing, seriously.

What really got me was the interaction between the characters, it's so in character and as lively as they originally were.
The realistic backgrounds and solid descriptions, not to mention Bagheera's line of though, just- /swoons
baww, let me hold you, Mowgli ;3;

Your writing style is very pleasant to read, and I loved the charactes.
And let me now go hide somewhere because I didn't use any references for clothes or anything in the picture.
