As soon as the cowgirl felt the bed move, though, her stuffing constricted in her chest. Buzz stood at the edge, his breathing a bit labored and his expression unreadable. Panic very nearly consumed Jessie as she watched him with glistening eyes, about ready to flee to the farthest place possible. She rotated her eyes to Woody again, realizing he began observing the scene out of the corner of his eye. Nothing would happen to her, just a talk, as he had promised. Breathing deeply and feeling steps approaching her cautiously, she turned her eyes forward again, but kept them directed on the bed.
Buzz sat down a good foot away from her. He knew he had to use careful methods of approaching Jessie; he didn’t want to push her away any further. It proved difficult, though, seeing the cowgirl again sparked a longing desire within him to hold and kiss her on instinct. The missing piece of himself sat so close to him, he craved for completion. He hoped she felt the same, but the uncomfortable silence and scattered eye contact told him otherwise. Sighing deeply and realizing he was no closer to her as he was before, he took the initiative to speak.
“Jessie.” He paused for a moment after he saw her flinch at the sound of his voice, but he swallowed his guilt and continued. “I-I just w-wanted to see you. S-See how you’re d-doing.”
He hadn’t stuttered that bad since the day they first went to Sunnyside. Buzz cursed himself mentally, wondering if he reverted to his original habits around the cowgirl. The words seemed so simple to say before, but they had since jumbled up into a mess once the time came to talk. Jessie gave the ranger an odd glance as he grew flustered. How was she doing? Really? As if the whole world couldn’t tell she felt ready to throw herself off a cliff. The nervousness churning her stomach gave way to incoming irritation.
“How am I doing?” She questioned in offense. “You can’t tell? How do you expect me to answer that?”
“N-no, that’s not what I m-meant to s-say!” Buzz knew he had to do damage control quickly. “I-I just w-want to talk t-to you.”
“Woody already told me that.” Jessie sighed exasperated. “About what?”
“A-about…” The ranger wanted to punch himself as he drew a blank. “A-about…us.”
His eyes widened at the same time as hers.
“Excuse me!” The cowgirl cried, standing up in a rush.
“N-no, that not what-”
“That’s all you wanted?” She cut him off sharply. “You just want me, is that it? For yourself, right? Who gives a damn about what I need or want? You’re…you’re just like ‘him!’ You’re all alike! You don’t want to help! You just…just…want to use me. Why did I agree to this?”
Buzz sat rigid, his mouth open wide. The cowgirl buried her face in her hands and pivoted to the edge of the bed.
“Jessie, wait please!” The ranger somehow found his voice.
“Just stay away from me.”
She jumped off the bed and disappeared from sight.
Horror sieged Buzz, rendering him bewildered. What had he just done? He had just ruined everything! His hands clawed at his head, wishing he had hair so he could rip it out. He suddenly knew what if felt like to be the bad guy and the piercing regret it brought. All the accomplishments he hoped to achieve for Jessie had slipped through his fingers in a mere instant.
“Buzz.”
The ranger almost missed the whisper, inclined to lift his head and glance across the room. Woody still sat on the windowsill and he pointed to an area below the bed, his face set tightly with a knowing gaze. It took a moment to figure out what the cowboy meant to convey, but once Buzz did, he shook his head rapidly. Go after Jessie, was he kidding? He had just given her enough reason to shun him for life. Continuing to pursue her would only worsen things and would probably make her more insecure. In his opinion, the space toy felt as if he had done enough already.

Woody’s staid expression never wavered, though, even as the two stared at one another for several moments. Their conversation the previous day began to resound again in Buzz’s mind, much to the inconvenience of his argument. He had made a mistake, but did that define the end of him and Jessie? The cowgirl had misinterpreted his words and his intentions; that didn’t mean the things he said were as horrible as they seemed. He had messed up, yes, he knew that, but he could fix the undoings before they unraveled completely. He just couldn’t give up. He couldn’t stop fighting.
A resolute expression must have formulated his features for when Buzz looked to Woody again, the cowboy nodded in approval, a small smirk etching his lips. He once again pointed toward the floor, indicating the cowgirl had fled underneath the bed skirt. Giving a curt nod, the ranger silently climbed down the comforter.
Jessie didn’t hear him land. She merely tucked herself further into the front corner of the bed, reaching out to the little beam of light that bent through the cracks of the bed frame and the wall. Picking a dark place to hide did not turn into a good decision, but the chaos in her mind had prevented her from thinking straight at the time. The shadows meeting her immediately unlocked the memories of the box at Sunnyside, provoking the same notions of deceit and possession. She wanted to relocate, but she knew the space ranger still sat on the bed. She preferred to hide instead of seeing him again.
“Jessie.”
The cowgirl practically leapt into the air with fright. Crying out she whipped around and tried to conceal herself behind the leg of the bed.
“I told you to stay away from me!” She yelled, refusing to acknowledge him with her eyes. “Why won’t you listen?!”
“Jessie, please, just-”
“Can’t you see you’ve done enough?” She completely ignored him. “I don’t want you anywhere near me! I don’t want you! I need to be alone! Go away, just go a-”
“Relajarse, mi amor.”
Jessie stopped midsentence. She breathed heavily for a moment before finally gazing directly at the space toy. She saw remorse lining his features, along with concern and hope. Yet, the adoration shimmering in his eyes drew her full attention.
“No quiero hacerte daño.” Buzz used his smooth, flowing, Spanish tone. “Tú eres mi flor del desierto. Que significan mucho para mí.”
The cowgirl once admitted she enjoyed the sound of his foreign voice. Ever since he learned how to control his Spanish side, the ranger used it to calm her whenever something set her off and to entice her during their more intimate moments. He hoped its effects would relax her and produce some air of security to tend to her worries and fears. His plan had worked.
“Jessie.” The space toy spoke in his own voice again. “You must forgive me for my nervousness a few moments ago; I did not mean to cause you any distress. I worried too much about saying the right things and the wrong things came out instead. I apologize.”
Sitting down, he continued to stay a significant distance away from her, but she did not move from her stunned position beside the bed’s leg.
“I wanted to talk to you because I wanted to offer my help. When I said ‘us’ before, I meant me helping you. I should have never secluded myself like I had. You needed me and I neglected you, but now I want you to know I don’t plan on leaving you to fight this battle on your own. Even if I have to remain this far from you at all times, if I have to speak in Spanish constantly, I don’t care. I want to assist you however I can, whenever I can, even in the middle of the night if need be. Your wants and needs are mine.”
Buzz nearly laughed at how easily he spoke then, how much he could have used the skill beforehand. He kept his eyes fixated on Jessie. Her emerald irises darted about for a moment, her mind silently comprehending. Eventually, she sat herself down, resting her hands in her lap.

The cowgirl’s mind had gotten lost in a thick fog, no thoughts readable enough to define. She thought she had Buzz figured out moments ago, that he was Henry’s Buzz just as she perceived days ago, trying to deceive her until she became vulnerable again. Now…she had no idea who sat before her. The Spanish remained unique, the words spoken so surely they felt nothing but honest. She wondered if she had fallen into a dream.
“I don’t want to hurt you, Jess.” The ranger continued, taking her pensive silence as a good sign. “I would never. I’m not like the other Buzz. I want you to be independent and see your personality shine. I want you to love whomever you choose just to see you happy. I want you to be free because that’s who you are.”
Jessie glanced at him again, trying to connect the differences. Yet, she shivered a bit before turning away again, as if she had looked too closely and saw someone frightening. Buzz swallowed again and breathed in deeply.
“I might look like him, but there are differences, ones that are quite significant. Remember? His suit was built differently, too much intricacy and a gaudy design. He was skinnier and much more fragile. His head was flatter, his skin paint paler, his wings jagged-”
“He didn’t glow in the dark.”
Buzz paused. The cowgirl stared at his chest, as if she hadn’t noticed he had glowed in the dark the entire time. She scrutinized the soft green glow before trailing her gaze upward and catching sight of how the gentle luminescence reflected off his plastic face. Her eyes gradually widened and her eyebrows bent.
She finally saw the true him for the first time in a long time.
“Jessie-oh!”
The ranger didn’t see her move and jumped slightly when he felt cloth arms encircle him. Jessie clung to him as she pressed him against her soft body firmly, afraid that letting go would send her back into a world of misery again. Buzz remained shocked as he glanced down at her, still uncertain about making contact with her, but when he felt her begin to shake with sobs, he couldn’t resist any longer. She was back in his arms.
“I-I’m so s-sorry, Buzz. I-I was s-so unfair to you!” Jessie wailed against his shoulder, letting everything pent up inside her flow out as rain-rushed rivers.
“You have no need to apologize.” Buzz reassured, rubbing her back tenderly and squeezed her closer just a bit more. “None of this is your fault. Just let everything go. It’ll be okay, I promise.”
Jessie had no desire to argue and merely heeded his advice. Only then did she understand how lost and perplexed she had felt without him around. His embrace acted as a sanctuary, instilling in her feeling she thought she had lost forever, certainty, hope, trust, love. She knew for sure then that Henry’s Buzz could never have the same dignity as her Buzz.
“I love you.” She whispered quietly once she calmed down.
The responding squeeze and peck on the top of her head reminded her how to smile.
“I’ll always love you.” He promised.
Nestling against him, Jessie prepared to sit with him for as long as possible. With his arms wrapped around her, the light from his glow in the dark feature encased her protectively, ready to dispel any shadows that dared harm her. Peace finally descended on her.
All would be well.

Thank you! Yeah, I couldn't resist the HP reference. It popped into my mind and it would not leave me alone after that. Thank you J.K. Rowling! Glad you enjoyed it! :D

OP HERE!
This story was amazing! I almost thought that the story was never going to get filled. Then you came along and filled it.
Woody cautiously helping Buzz and Jessie out was great. I thought he would have a part in this a little more. As in him being right there with them and not on the sidelines, but it's still good!
I love how Buzz pointed out the differences between him and Henry's Buzz. I also love how Jessie remembered that her Buzz can glow in the dark. I felt that it really helped her since if she thinks of Henry's Buzz then she thinks of him not glowing in the dark. Huge difference!
Now it's time for the two to move on. The tricky thing will be anything and everything that has to do with kisses, hugs, and of course sex. I hope they'll be ok in that area. :)

Thank you so much! Yeah, this story idea popped into my head when I first read the prompt and I'm like, this story is too well planned out for me not to write.
Yeah, having Buzz's glow in the dark feature being the key to helping Jessie was the plan from the beginning, thus "Dispelling Shadows." I wanted that to be the big difference between the two Buzzes so she could separate them.
I'm really glad you enjoyed this! Thanks for prompting! :D

The last line, like the final line of Harry Potter, made me get teary eyed/cry. It was a lovely final chapter.
I'm glad this got completely filled. You did a great job.
